Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Painful

After meeting with her ex-boyfriend, Ellen continued browsing various company websites for job openings. She wanted to work at least as an accounting or finance staff member, considering she majored in accounting in college. However, when she clicked the "apply for job" button on each website, an automatic reply email immediately appeared, informing her that the company had rejected her for various reasons. Without knowing the real reason, she already knew the answer. Even though she was working for the company's internal interests, all the companies already considered her a disgusting woman due to the scandal.

Speaking of part-time work, she actually wanted to do it because she had several years of experience working in various convenience stores when her parents recently passed away. Had her parents still been alive, she would have been the daughter of a wealthy family. However, her family went bankrupt after being defrauded by a company that held a grudge against them.

To this day, Ellen doesn't know what company dared to bankrupt her family. Her parents never mentioned the company's name openly, but she once overheard it in secret. Therefore, if she ever met the company's owner, she decided to seek revenge. However, she still needed to find a job first to have some peace of mind.

Every time she passed someone, everyone would immediately start talking about her. News of the scandal was still circulating on social media. Everyone still wanted her to die or leave the country. Hearing the same things every day meant she couldn't go anywhere freely. She hated her current life.

Even by the afternoon, she still hadn't returned home. Taking a leisurely walk in the city park, breathing in the fresh air, had been one of her primary desires since becoming an actress. She couldn't do anything freely. For now, she was somewhat grateful for this tragedy, as she could live her life freely.

"She is right there!"

Hearing a young woman's scream, she turned to face the group of young women now charging at her. She quickly stepped out of the crowd. She was wearing heels, making it difficult for her to run.

Luckily, she managed to escape the onslaught of young women. However, she accidentally tripped and fell to the ground, bleeding from her knee. Initially, she had wanted to hold back her tears all day, but now she couldn't hold them in anymore, as the pain she was experiencing was making her breathing difficult. For the time being, she didn't want to ask Penelope for help.

When night fell, she returned to her residence and sat on the living room sofa. For a moment, she massaged her aching temples and cried loudly. Staring at her bleeding right knee, she felt utterly helpless just because of the scandal.

"Ellen, are you in there?"

Hearing her friend's scream, she wiped away her tears for a moment. "I'm here. Wait a minute!"

But her friend barged into her house, leaving her at a loss for what to do. There was no way she could hide the wound on her knee while she hadn't yet treated herself. All she could do was wipe away her tears and lower her head.

Although Flint is usually indifferent to everything, when it comes to those he cares about, he's incredibly sensitive. Seeing his friend's injured knee, he immediately ran to her and knelt before him. Before visiting his friend, he changed clothes to disguise himself as an ordinary person.

Ellen widened her eyes and stared at her friend, who was quickly grabbing some medical supplies to treat the wound on her knee. "Flint, what are you doing?"

"Why are you still asking? Of course I'm treating the wound on your knee."

Her cheeks flushed red at the special treatment from her best friend. She remembered when she was still dating Harley. Every time she wanted to ask Harley to treat the wounds on her feet and hands from injuries during filming, Harley always couldn't make time to treat her wounds, even though Harley eventually visited her at her residence. In contrast, Flint was immediately sensitive and treated her wounds without being asked. Moreover, the way Flint treated her wounds was very gentle, as if showing his very gentle personality. The breath Flint gave her on her knee instantly made her tears begin to subside.

"What happened? How did you get hurt? Did someone hurt you?" Flint asked in a panic.

Her head hung low, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to flow again. The first time someone cared so much about her, her heart began to flutter.

"Ellen?" Flint waved his hand slowly. He actually knew his friend must be having another serious problem, making her grind her teeth nonstop. Whenever she was anxious, she always engaged in bad habits, but he was the only one who noticed.

"I accidentally fell while walking in the park."

"Why are you walking around in public? Isn't it very dangerous for you, with news of you still going viral on social media?" Flint scolded sharply.

"I need some fresh air once in a while. I don't like being stuck in my house all the time." She rubbed her eyes for a moment. "It's annoying when I can't do anything at a time like this. Everyone hates me like I'm a pest."

"How dare they say such hurtful things to you! Who would dare say such things?"

Ellen laughed awkwardly at her friend's innocent demeanor, which managed to cheer her up once again. "If I name ten people, what will you do?"

"Of course I'll get back at them for bullying you. You're not a bad person, so why are you always the victim?" Flint complained as he applied a band-aid to his friend's knee.

"You're not the victim of this scandal. Why are you so angry?"

Flint blinked nervously as he closed the medicine cabinet. "Because I hate seeing my neighbors look weak. I usually have strong neighbors."

Her hands were folded. "Really? Then, should I move house so you don't have to deal with a weak neighbor like me?"

"Don't move house again!"

Hearing her best friend's screams shook her heart, which had been restless all day. The intense look in her friend's eyes made her heart start to pound. Even though they were just friends in the game and in real life, how could her heart be pounding in a situation like this?

"Instead of moving house, how about you try changing your mindset, Ellen?"
