Chapter 27 - Chapter 27 – The Price of Power

Darkness lingered.

Not empty…

But heavy.

Like something was watching from within it.

Leo drifted inside that darkness again.

Not fully conscious.

Not fully gone.

Just… suspended.

A faint pulse echoed.

Slow.

Deep.

Ancient.

The voice returned.

"…You pushed too far."

Leo didn't open his eyes.

"…Not enough."

A pause followed.

Then—

"…You are breaking your own vessel."

Leo's thoughts flickered.

Fragments of pain.

Fragments of power.

Fragments of something he didn't fully understand.

"…Then fix it."

For a moment—

Silence.

Then the darkness shifted.

Not violently.

But deliberately.

"…Very well."

A sudden surge of energy rushed through him.

Not explosive.

But invasive.

Like something was rewriting him from the inside.

His consciousness trembled.

Pain followed instantly.

Real pain.

Not physical—

Existential.

"…This is the cost."

Leo clenched his teeth.

Even here, even like this—

He endured.

"…Take it."

The darkness cracked.

Light poured in.

Memories—

Not his own—

Flooded his mind again.

An ancient battlefield.

Gods falling.

Voids collapsing.

A figure standing alone against countless beings.

Not dominating.

Not raging.

Just… existing.

And everything else breaking around it.

"…That is power."

The voice whispered.

"…Not destruction."

"…But authority."

Leo's thoughts sharpened slightly.

"…Authority…"

"…To decide what exists."

The words echoed inside him.

Deeper than anything before.

The pain lessened.

Not gone.

But controlled.

"…Your body cannot hold everything."

"…So you must choose."

Leo frowned slightly.

"…Choose… what…"

"…What you become."

Silence.

Then—

"…A weapon…"

"…Or something beyond that."

Leo's mind stilled.

Then—

"…I decide."

The darkness responded.

Not with words.

But with acceptance.

The energy within him settled.

Not weaker.

But more… refined.

Controlled.

Stable.

For now.

"…Good."

The voice faded slightly.

"…Then wake up."

Light shattered the darkness.

Reality returned.

Leo's eyes opened slowly.

The ceiling above him came into view.

A familiar room.

The academy infirmary.

His body felt heavy.

But not broken.

Different.

"…He's awake."

Luna's voice.

Soft.

Relieved.

Leo turned his head slightly.

She was sitting beside him.

Closer than usual.

Her eyes tired.

Like she hadn't slept.

Kai rushed in instantly,

"FINALLY! Do you know how long you were out?!"

Ryu followed behind, arms crossed,

"…Three days."

Milan stood near the window, adjusting his glasses,

"…Your condition was unstable. We weren't sure if you'd wake up."

Leo slowly sat up.

Pain shot through his body—

But it didn't overwhelm him.

He exhaled.

"…I'm fine."

Kai stared at him,

"You don't look fine."

Leo ignored that.

Instead—

He looked at his hand.

For a brief moment—

The space around it distorted slightly.

Then returned to normal.

Controlled.

Luna noticed immediately.

"…It's different now."

Leo nodded slightly.

"…Yeah."

Ryu stepped closer,

"…You defeated that thing."

"…Completely."

A pause.

"…What are you now?"

The question hung in the air.

Heavy.

Real.

Leo didn't answer immediately.

Because even he didn't fully know.

"…Still me."

Kai sighed,

"…That doesn't make me feel better."

Milan spoke quietly,

"…The academy is in chaos."

"…That attack destroyed a large part of the outer grounds."

"…And…"

He paused.

"…They're talking about you."

Leo looked at him.

"…Of course they are."

Luna's expression grew serious.

"…Not just students."

"…Higher authorities."

"…They know something happened."

Silence filled the room.

Leo leaned back slightly.

Thinking.

"…Then it's only a matter of time."

Kai frowned,

"…Time for what?"

Leo's eyes darkened slightly.

"…For stronger enemies."

A cold feeling spread through the room.

No one argued.

Because they all felt it too.

This wasn't the end.

Not even close.

Far away—

Beyond the sky.

Beyond reality.

Something moved again.

Watching.

Calculating.

Waiting.

Back in the room—

Luna spoke softly,

"…What will you do now?"

Leo closed his eyes briefly.

Then opened them again.

Clear.

Decided.

"…Get stronger."

A pause.

"…Faster."

His hand clenched slightly.

The air around it tightened—

Then stabilized.

"…Before they come."

Silence followed.

But this time—

It wasn't fear.

It was understanding.

The path ahead was no longer hidden.

It was clear.

Dangerous.

And inevitable.

Leo looked out the window.

At the sky.

Calm.

Unmoving.

"…Next time…"

His voice was low.

Cold.

"…I won't fall."

And somewhere far beyond—

Something heard him.

And smiled.
