Yang Yang bent over, planting some seeds in a small garden, as she hummed softly. It had been almost a week since she had successfully escaped from the forced marriage. Just like she had assumed, her aunt and the Lin family members had been unable to trace her. She had chosen a little undeveloped town on the outskirts of the city.
Her first night there was hard, but then she met her landlady. A kind old woman she had run into that night, who had offered to let her stay at one of her little houses. The price of the rent was very low, and the house even had a garden! She had never been so lucky before. But it was a very small house, with just a living room, a bed room and a kitchen. Although she had never led a luxurious life, she faced some difficulties adapting to such a small space, considering the fact that there was no electricity in her part of the town.
She was happy anyway. The town was peaceful and quiet. And most of all, she was free. Free from Shujia Lin and her daughters, free from a marriage that would have been her worst nightmare. She sighed. Let the Lin family members enjoy for now. In a few years, she would be powerful, and they would all face retribution.
She carefully put a few seeds into a little hole she had dug and covered the hole up. Just then, she heard the distant sound of a vehicle approaching. It was unusual. The town was full of peasants who normally would not have such luxury as to own a car. The only vehicles one could see around were trucks and old vans. And not just that, the sound seemed to be more than that of one or two cars. More shocked than curious, she raised her head to look towards the street and was stunned.
Not just one, but a fleet of luxurious cars were driving down the street towards her house. She looked around. Neighbours were already standing by the roadside, or peeking through their windows, all wanting to have a glance at the unusual scene. Obviously, whoever owned those cars was very wealthy. She began to think of different possibilities as to why such a person or group of people would come here. Could they be here for marriage? Or were they here to kidnap the residents of the town? Thinking about this possibility, a shiver ran down her spine. If that was the case, they would be dead meat, because there wasn't even a phone signal to call for help.
As she was lost in her thoughts, the fleet of cars pulled up one by one beside her house. She snapped back to reality! Her house? How could they have parked beside her house?. She knew the Lin family would never be this extravagant just to find her and bring her home. So who could she have offended? Just then, one of the car doors opened and a face she knew all too well appeared.
Her eyes widened in shock. The young master Youchang Chen! What was he doing here? Slowly and with measured steps, he began walking towards her. She turned around ready to flee. She had barely taken two steps when a large hand caught her wrist and spun her around swiftly. The world around her began to rotate and she fell into his arms. He secured his arm tightly around her waist.
"What were you thinking, hmm? Running away just before our wedding day?" Just when everything around her became stable again, he asked.
She stared at his face intently, trying to understand what had just happened. The young master had come to find her? How? She had never expected it. Never even considered it. Why would he search for her? She wasn't even his rightful bride! At most, she had thought that when she could not be found, he would force Biyu Lin to marry him, or take out his anger on the Lin family. Never had she considered that he would actually search for her. If she had known, she would have tried harder and probably left the city. Now, he had come to capture her, forcefully marry her and torture her because of her sins in her past life.
When he raised one of his elegant eyebrows, she was compelled to answer him. His eyes were burning with subdued anger. She gulped.
"I, I didn't run." She tried to defend herself. Lying seemed to be the only way to save face right now.
"Is that so? So why then did you sneak out of your house at midnight and rent a new house in another town just a few days to our wedding?" He asked again. Sarcasm and malice were evident in his voice.
"I.. I only wanted to come here for a little vacation. I was going to return home to you." She lied. Her voice grew quieter as she spoke. She turned to look at the bystanders. They all stood still watching, none of them attempting to even help her. At the far corner, her landlady stood, guilt filling her eyes as she looked at her.
Hearing her words, his eyes seemed to burn even more fiercely. In one swift move, he pressed her body flush against his. Her eyes widened. She could feel his bodily heat and the hard outline of his chest against her body. "So dear wife. When were you planning to return? How would I have found you here if I wasn't informed beforehand of your escape?" He asked again, his voice very calm, contrasting with the fire in his eyes.
She gasped in shock. "Informed beforehand?" How could he have known she was going to run away? She had not told anyone. Besides, it had even been a last-minute decision and no one had seen her leave the house. Just when she thought that, she remembered Biyu Lin's silhouette by her window that seemed to be looking at her that night. Everything began to make sense now. It was becoming obvious that the young master and Biyu Lin were accomplices. Biyu Lin must have seen her that night and reported to the young master.
So it turned out they had planned it out. She turned to look at the land lady who now avoided her gaze. This explained why she had quickly found a house with such cheap rent, and why the landlady had been so kind to her. She should have found out earlier. It turned out it was all planned, and she played right into their game. Well, now that she was caught, she needed to find another way out.
