POV: Valeria
"Are you actually serious about this?" Estrella's voice trembled as she stared at the floor and started fidgeting with her nails.
I leaned against the car next to me.
"About what?"
"The scholarship!"
What is she talking about? Is she seriously nervous out of the blue?
"Halaya de la Paz Intern High doesn't just hand out spots to random people. Everyone there is-"She hesitated.
Everyone there is what?
"Everyone there is… rich with lots of connections . And then there's....us?"
I smirked as I touched the ends of my dark brown hair.
"Us? We're exactly why they opened this stupid scholarship in the first place. Two spots for two broke girls. For two brains who actually know how to think, not like these spoiled brats. That's us, trust me. Was I ever wrong?"
Estrella bit her lip. "I don't know…What if we-"
"Stop Ella. Don't say 'What if' as if it's some prophecy. We don't have any other chance for a better future than at Halaya de la Paz Intern High." I hesitated saying the next part because I knew it would break her..but she won't listen otherwise.
"We don't have money for high school!" I said as I emphasized the word 'money'.
She sighed, took my hand and started walking towards Halaya de la Paz intern high.
We walked in silence for a moment until she gasped.
"There it is." I said in amusement.
It was huge!
This time I was the one who took her hand,but she didn't start walking.
"Hold up.." she said while checking out the whole school.
"We have no time!" I hurried as I pulled her.
This time she finally started walking with me.
We saw lots of students walk out with disappointed faces.
"D-did you see their faces?" She whispered to me.
"Don't worry."
We walked into room 1, with more than 50 students sitting there.
We quickly sat down in the 4th row next to some nervous looking people.
"We got this." I whispered to her, as she simply smiled at me.
In the next moment, the professor walked in. She had this chilling aura which made my arm hair stand up. She had black lipstick that matched her black hair. Her eyes were a very light shade of blue and her skin was pale.
"Welcome to Halaya de la Paz intern high! My name is Ms Cindy Lut.
You are the 5th group of people trying to be one of the two scholars. But this time…I have a feeling, one of you or maybe even two of you in here will become a part ….of our high school," Ms Cindy said as she looked directly at me.
Woah, creepy much?
Even though her stare gave me chills, it also gave me hope.
After she said the rules of the test we were going to be taking, she finally handed out our tests.
"This isn't even hard..?" I whispered, a little too loud.
"Not hard?" Ms Cindy asked sounding a little irritated and challenged .
"Not hard at all..?" Ella also said.
The students next to us gasped.
"Not hard?", Ms said asked again. " Do you students want an even harder test?"
"No!" Everyone except me and Ella suddenly shouted.
"Alright..you two will only be getting an even harder test." She said as she smiled.
"Alright." I simply said at her challenge.
"Follow me."
Me and Ella did exactly that.
We both got put in a room where only we were.
"There are only 3 questions and a 30 minute timer. Good luck." She said as she handed us our paper.
Both of us finished in almost 20 minutes.
Ms Cindy looked surprised and immediately started correcting our tests in front of us.
"Go ahead, sit in the waiting room we will be announcing the scholars soon."
Ella took my hand and we started walking towards the waiting area.
While walking there some guy bumped into me which made me trip.
"Hey!" I screamed as he started walking away without even apologising.
I quickly stood up and grabbed the back of his shirt and pulled him back.
"Don't you know how to apologise, you asshole?!" I yelled at the top of my lungs.
Some students walking by just gasped.
"Did she just…pull the shirt of Supremo…A-Andres..?" Someone next to me asked her face filled with horror.
Supremo? Andres?
Ella quickly pulled my hand away.
"Val! You said you wouldn't cause any trouble here!" She whispered in a screaming voice.
I didn't even know that was possible.
That guy just glanced back at me and started walking away.
That asshole.
"We let that bastard get away, damn it." I said to Ella.
Someone tapped at my shoulder.
I turned around to look at the person who just touched my shoulder.
"Yes?"
"Don't ever do that again. That was Supremo. Andres Reyes Sillvenia, he's rank 1. He can ruin your life with just one word." She said as she looked back to see if anyone heard it.
Right after she looked back she hurriedly walked away.
Rank 1?
Rank 1 in what?
"What's rank 1?" Ella asked sounding curious.
I just shrugged and decided to ignore it.
"Just ignore her. Let's go." I said as I interlinked our arms.
We hurried to the waiting area because the announcement was about to be made.
We sat down at the first two free seats we saw.
Most people in the room looked nervous meanwhile some looked a little too cocky.
The guy sitting across from us looked so handsome.
I kept staring at his light brown almost blonde hair, his green eyes and his tanned skin.
Out of the blue he looked directly at me.
Shit! He caught me staring at him!
I quickly looked away.
Right then Ella excused herself to go to the bathroom.
As she was about to walk away I whispered, "Come back quickly. Don't get lost. If you do, call me."
She just chuckled and nodded. I wanted to check if he was still looking at me and did a quick peek and shit he was…which means he caught my quick peak as well.
Out of the blue he stood up and walked towards me.
"Hey there. I am Jarren. What about you?"
"U-uh I uh am u-" I stuttered so hard.
"Uh I am Valeria." I finally said it without stuttering.
He then sat down next to me.
We had a small chat while she was gone.
She suddenly came back.
'Why did you have to come back Ella?' I thought to myself.
He saw her walking towards us, so he stood up and left.
"Who was that?" She asked.
"No one. Don't mind it."I replied.
"Just tell me." She said dragging the 'e'.
"No one."
"So his name is 'no one'?"
"Stop dragging it." I said annoyed.
"Okay, grumpy." She said as she chuckled.
"Hey take that back!" I yelled.
"Not if you don't tell me his name." She said mockingly.
I just scoffed and turned my head away.
"Just tell me already." She said pulling my shirt.
"No way."
"Please just tell me, it would hurt-"
Her sentence got cut short because the mic beeped.
"Dear students make your way to the gymnasium." The announcer said.
"Let's go." I said to Ella.
"Ugh." She said as she stood up.
As we walked towards the gymnasium we kept bickering back and forth.
We finally arrived and our jaws dropped.
The gymnasium was the size of our whole old school.
"No way.." Ella said sounding hypnotised.
"Imagine we get in." I said to her.
A smile formed on her face but vanished soon after as she saw how many students were in there.
"We don't stand a chance. We aren't that lucky."
I just rolled my eyes at her eyes and started walking inside.
She quickly ran after me.
We both sat down in the 2nd row next to each other.
I tried to look tough for her but I knew nervousness was eating me alive.
Soon after someone arrived at the stage.
He cleared his throat and started talking.
He looked like he was at his mid 30's.
His body was nicely build and his black hair was covering his left eye.
He had light blue eyes just like the professor we had earlier.
Was that his wife or sister?
They both looked similar but not that similar.
He wasn't as pale as her he was quite tan with a mole under his right eye.
"Welcome students! I am the principal of Halaya de la Paz intern high. I am Will Parellata. I am home red to be the one announcing the scholars of my school. There has been a slight change with the numbers of scholars we will be getting…instead of two we decided on having 3!"
He cleared his throat again.
"The 1st schooler is Jarren Williams Cruz!"
He stood up with his back turned to us and bowed while everyone was clapping.
He walked up at the stage and we could finally see his face.
Hold up! That was Jarren.. the guy I met earlier today.
The principal said something to Jarren and he walked downstairs again and sat down in his previous place.
While sitting down he spotted me in the crowd and winked at me.
The principal was about to say something but stopped midway when the some tall man came to him and whispered something in his ear.
"Before we continue.. we are going to open a buffet outside of our gymnasium. Please make your way out of the gymnasium." Was the last thing he said as he started walking down the stairs.
He quickly ran outside with the tall man beside him.
"What the hell?" Ella said as she stood up.
I motioned her to walk ahead of me just so I could sneak a quick glance at Jarren.
As soon as I looked at him he saw me and waved at me with a huge smile.
He was walking towards me so I hurriedly walked away and disappeared into the crowd.
Me and Ella ate a little, actcully a lot.
Then it was time to go inside the gymnasium again to hear the names of the two other scholars.
"Sorry for the delay, something got in the way…" he said as his voice echoed through the whole gymnasium.
Right after he said the word 'way' he looked around the gymnasium as of looking for someone and finally stopped and started directly at someone. Everyone looked back to see who he was looking at.
Me and Ella also looked back out of curiosity.
"Before we start, I want you to welcome Andres Reyes Sillvenia!"
That name sounds familiar?
He got up and walked up on the stage.
"Hello students. My name is Andres Reyes Sillvenia. I am the Supremo student government president of Halaya de la Paz intern high. Welcome to Halaya de la Paz intern high." He said as he flashed a smile.
He scanned the crowd and his eyes landed directly on…me?
He stared at me for a while then left the stage.
Before sitting down he looked at me once again.
"Let's continue!" The principal yelled with a grin.
"The 2nd scholar is…..Estrella Hyun!"
My eyes widened at the name.
Ella?!
She looked at me as if wanting to confirm if she heard that right.
I just nodded and started clapping while a smile formed on my face.
She went up on the stage and the principal shook hands with her as he said something to her.
"The 3rd and last but not least is…..Valeria Padilla Torres!"
I gasped and my jaw dropped as low as it could.
Did I hear that right just now..?
I looked at Ella and she just nodded just like I did earlier.
I stood up and walked towards the stage.
The principal smiled at me and whispered. "Be ready."
What did he mean by "be ready"?
