He started out like most of the city’s sharp-eyed survivors — smart enough to scrape by, unscrupulous enough to survive. When a clandestine containment ritual detonates in a midnight market, everything changes: He wakes, not to the next day, but to a version of the same day he’s already lived, with tiny differences that only he notices. The first few resets feel like a cheat: knowledge borrowed from a future loop, enemies outmaneuvered, fortunes skimmed. It tastes like freedom. But the resets are not free. Certain things persist across loops — a scratched coin, a stray lullaby, a ledger he learns to keep — while other things blink: faces lose their edges, promises fray, love becomes a thing that blinks out at the worst moments. Worse still, he discovers this is not an accident.
