Chapter 30 - The Fairy of Uriphenia

The fairy of Uriphenia.

The last fairy in existence, protecting something called the trinket of destiny.

But in reality, it was just an earring?

It had many abilities of which the novel didn't bother to shed more light on, but amidst its many abilities was one I knew too well. Mana reservoir. It absorbs and stores a huge chunk of mana into the earring, but the amazing fact about it is that the mana stored will be converted by the trinket itself into the signature of the wearer, and that's the issue everyone has.

The reason one isn't able to instantly refill their mana pool is because the manacore has to first purify and convert atmospheric mana to the user's signature, before transferring it to the user. And that process takes a great awful lot of time, well at least, that's how it would seem if one is in the heat of battle.

But just think for a moment.

What if there is something that stores an immense amount of mana and that very mana is already converted into your signature? With something like that, you can instantly refill your manapool in an instant, and the manacore won't even need to purify it since it has already been purified; that way the mana flows through the mana core like water through a water path.

"An hour," I muttered, staring around for something the novel had described that the protagonist encountered to find it. But it is proving more difficult than I thought it would.

Curse it!

I kicked a branch in annoyance and watched it sail freely into the air.

But then..

"Gruu,"

Damn.

The branch landed right on the head of a sleeping Crenox I hadn't even noticed until now.

It was a tiger-like creature, but this had a mana core at its forehead, red blazing eyes, and its fur was literally blazing hot.

Damn it, this is most likely a tier 3 mutated beast.

There are two types of mana beasts in this world.

The first being the Mutated, and the second being the Evolved.

Mutated beasts are actually more rampant in these parts of the world. These types of beasts are creatures that were once unable to wield mana—not that they didn't have the ability, no, it was just like humans who would have to at some point awaken; that's how these beasts would at some point awaken the ability to use mana and in the process become mana beasts.

Evolved beasts on the other hand are creatures which had the ability to wield mana from the very beginning, and they are the most dangerous of the two.

But I am weak.

That's a fact.

I may have sword skills that were drilled into me from childhood but at the end of the day I am still a level one, and a level three would struggle to kill a tier 3 mutated beast, talk more of a level one.

The creature rose to its feet, then regarded me for a while, gauging if I was a threat or dinner, and with its next response, dinner it is.

It lunged forward at an absurd speed, flames trailing behind it, burning the grasses around.

Sigh.

'It's been long since I used this.'

I manifested my old worn-out sword from my spatial ring and dashed towards the creature. The academy is yet to give us a weapon, but just like in the novel, it will probably happen on the first day of combat class.

Swish!

My sword tore through the air the moment the creature got close enough, but its next move left me shocked.

It opened its mouth and tried to grab hold of the blade.

Realizing what it was aiming for, I skidded to a halt, twisting my body ever so slightly to change the trajectory of the sword; however, doing that, I left myself open and by the time I realized that, it was already too late.

The creature's claw sank into my shoulder and I grimaced in pain. I then twisted, and swung my sword once more, this time aiming for the hind of its leg, but the moment my sword came in contact, it turned red. I quickly realized this and hopped back.

Darn it.

I can't hurt it with my sword since it can't stand the heat of the bastard.

But I also can't waste too much time here. What do I do?
