Chapter 32 - The Unassuming Tree

It was now thirty more minutes into the time, and I now stood before an unassuming tree, gazing up at it, but the grin on my face made it clear this tree was everything but just an ordinary tree.

I had suddenly recalled a certain element in the game after racking my brain for so long. This was the very thing I was missing, the piece that made finding the stupid fairy so insanely difficult. You see the fairy itself resided in this forest, specifically in one of the trees in the forest. Now this Fairy was smart, it wasn't just going to make it obvious that it was staying at a specific tree by making that tree look different, no, instead it went for the average looking tree, making it so difficult to find that it was literally impossible.

Well, impossible if you weren't the protagonist, that is.

According to what I recalled, tomorrow there would be a certain creature, a tier five evolved beast, trying to tear down the very tree that the Fairy lived in, but there was a reason for that, and that reason was what made me stand before this tree right now with a grin, beyond just the bitch fairy was hiding in here.

The creature itself was a HOBIX. A strange breed of mana beast that sucked the mana out of its victims, then killed them. Now, the hobix while going around these parts noticed the strange mana fluctuation in the environment, it then followed the mana to a certain tree which was sucking mana from all directions of the forest, redirecting the energy into its surroundings.

Now this creature wanted this energy, it wanted the pure mass of mana so bad that it literally attacked and tried to eat the tree itself, and that was when the Fairy appeared, but the fairy given how much of its mana it had wasted over thousands of years to keep up the illusion and given how weakened it already was, sustained a severe injury when she appeared before the beast trying to chase it away.

Now, it was at that moment that Lucas showed up 'coincidentally', then saved her and the tree. But she was already gravely wounded at that time, so she couldn't hold on any longer. It was at that moment she sensed the purity in the hero's heart. She was fascinated as she couldn't believe a human could be so pure. So she resolved, that since she was already at her end, it would be better for him to have it, perhaps that's how it was destined to be.

Anyway that long cringy ass story aside, spreading out my mana into the environment and literally using myself as a life radar was how I found this stupid tree. It really wasn't even that hard, the moment I tried sensing it, it was just there.

But I have some problems now. One, the Fairy won't show up, it only did because the tree was in danger, at least that's what the novel said. Two, the Fairy even if it does show up is not at death's door, so it definitely won't even consider giving the relic away. Three and the last, I most definitely do not have a pure heart.

Yes.

I don't have a pure heart, how do I know this? Well it's not rocket science, I am someone who will sacrifice a whole kingdom once it benefits me, I mean I would have literally sacrificed this whole world for Renay, back when my feelings were at the thick of it.

"What do I do?" I thought, gazing at the tree.

At this point I only have about an hour and a few minutes left to get back, but I feel like I have already hit a dead end.

"Um…. Fairy—whatever name you go by—get your ass down here before I cut down this fucking tree!" I said in a serious tone, but after waiting a minute or two, I felt like a total idiot. If someone saw me now I would probably look like some… madman.

"Tsk."

Oh well.

Even if I do go back empty-handed I must chop this tree down.

One.

I don't like Lucas.

No special reason why.

I just don't like Lucas.

So, if I am not getting that fucking cheat then he definitely ain't getting it either.

With that my sword ignited into purple flames.
