The crow beast let out another shrill cry as it closed the distance.
Ash kicked off the branch.
Boom!
He shot into the air, narrowly avoiding the beast's razor-sharp talons.
At the same time, he began making a series of complicated hand gestures while channeling Air Magic.
His lips moved rapidly as he chanted what sounded like an elaborate spell.
In reality...
It was complete nonsense.
The chants and gestures existed only to mislead anyone observing him.
Hidden beneath that performance, Ash silently cast his true spells without a single word or movement, concealing his mastery of silent casting.
Dozens of compressed wind blades formed around him before launching toward the crow beast from multiple directions.
The magical beast reacted instantly.
Darkness gathered around its wings while violent currents of wind exploded outward, colliding with Ash's invisible attacks in midair.
The forest canopy erupted with violent shockwaves as wind and darkness clashed against invisible blades.
Floating high above the trees, Ash calmly watched the crow-like magical beast circle around him.
"So..."
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"A dual-element magical beast with both Darkness and Air affinities."
"This should be interesting."
The crow beast flapped its wings hard and several blades of dark wind shot toward Ash.
Ash moved through the air with Air Magic, changing his direction before the attacks could hit him. At the same time, he silently gathered water droplets from the moisture in the air.
Hidden behind his fake chants and hand gestures, two spells were completed at once.
The water gathered into dozens of floating spheres around him.
Then Air Magic compressed each sphere.
The calm water instantly became spinning water bullets.
With a wave of his hand, the bullets flew toward the crow beast.
The beast beat its wings and created a storm of black wind, destroying many of the bullets before they reached it. However, several broke through and exploded against its feathers, leaving small cuts across its body.
The crow screeched in anger.
Dark mana gathered around its beak before it fired a spear of darkness.
Ash raised his hand.
A wall of stone burst out from below, while a layer of compressed wind wrapped around it.
The darkness spear struck the barrier.
The stone cracked apart, but the wind layer absorbed much of the impact, allowing Ash to escape without injury.
He immediately counterattacked.
Earth spikes shot upward from the ground beneath the flying beast.
At the same time, powerful wind currents changed the direction of the spikes in midair, making them curve toward the crow instead of traveling in straight lines.
The beast was forced to flap its wings repeatedly to avoid the unexpected attack.
Before it could recover, Ash silently cast another combination spell.
Fire gathered around his right hand.
Air compressed the flames into several thin spinning discs.
Instead of normal fireballs, the compressed flames became blazing wheels that spun at incredible speed.
Ash pointed forward.
The fiery discs shot through the sky.
The crow surrounded itself with darkness and blocked the first two attacks, but the third sliced through its wind barrier and cut across one of its wings.
The beast lost its balance for a moment.
Ash did not waste the opportunity.
He gathered Water and Lightning Mana together.
Water surrounded the crow like a floating mist.
An instant later, countless lightning arcs spread through the moisture.
The crow quickly released a burst of darkness, dispersing the water before the lightning could fully surround it, but a few bolts still struck its body.
Its feathers stood on end as electricity spread across them.
The beast let out an angry cry and dove toward Ash at full speed.
Ash smiled slightly.
He mixed Earth and Water Magic this time.
A dozen mud spheres appeared around the crow before suddenly hardening into stone prisons.
The beast smashed through most of them using its claws and wings, but its speed dropped noticeably.
Ash used that opening.
Wind gathered beneath his feet, launching him above the crow.
At the same time, Fire and Earth Mana merged together.
Several fist-sized balls of molten rock appeared behind him.
Instead of throwing them directly, Ash wrapped each one in compressed wind.
The wind greatly increased their speed.
The molten projectiles shot downward like meteors.
The crow avoided the first one.
The second exploded nearby, scattering burning rock fragments across its body.
The third molten projectile struck the crow beast directly on its shoulder.
The explosion blasted it out of the sky.
The beast crashed through several large trees before slamming heavily into the forest floor, sending dirt and broken branches flying in every direction.
Ash did not give it any time to recover.
He immediately began making another series of hand gestures while loudly chanting.
"Dark Prison!"
In reality, the chant was only for show.
Silently, Ash combined Earth and Darkness Magic.
Several thick stone pillars erupted from the ground around the fallen crow beast, surrounding it from every direction before curving inward to form a massive cage.
At the same time, Darkness Magic spread through the stone prison.
The black energy seeped into the crow beast's body, continuously draining its strength and suppressing its mana, preventing it from recovering or breaking free.
The crow struggled violently, smashing its wings against the prison walls.
Cracks appeared on the stone, but the darkness continued weakening it with every passing second.
Only after confirming that the magical beast was securely trapped did Ash finally relax.
He turned his attention toward his teammates.
The moment he saw them, however, his face twisted in disgust.
The four of them were being completely overwhelmed by the puma-like beast and the giant bear.
They were barely managing to defend themselves.
What annoyed Ash even more was that none of them had used a single Tier One or Tier Two spell.
Instead, they were relying almost entirely on crude mana blasts and basic body reinforcement, wasting both mana and opportunities to end the fight quickly.
Ash pinched the bridge of his nose.
"I knew they were inexperienced..."
He sighed.
"But I didn't think they were this hopeless."
