Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 – The Counter-Offensive

The dawn broke over the city, painting the wet streets with gold and silver reflections. But Adam felt no rest. Last night had been a warning: Kane was relentless, and hesitation would cost lives.

Selene spread out the plans on a table in their safehouse. "We have two options: wait for him to strike again, or take the fight to him. I recommend the second."

Adam's eyes scanned the maps and intel. Warehouses, bank accounts, shipping hubs—everything Kane relied on for his empire was vulnerable.

"Then we hit where it hurts," Adam said, determination cutting through the fear that had haunted him for years.

Lina, standing beside him, frowned. "Adam… are you sure? If we go after him, he'll come at us harder."

Adam turned to her, his eyes softening for a moment. "I know the risks. But I can't run anymore. And I can't protect everyone if I don't act."

Selene nodded. "I'll coordinate the teams. You and Lina move to the primary target: Kane's main financial hub. Disrupt the operations, gather evidence, and send him a message he won't forget."

Hours later, Adam and Lina approached the towering building that housed Kane's most secretive operations. Cameras, guards, and high-tech security lined the perimeter. But Adam had planned for this. Every blind spot, every patrol, every sensor—he knew them all.

They slipped inside undetected, moving through the corridors like shadows. Adam's heart raced—not with fear, but with focus.

"Almost there," he whispered to Lina, leading her into the server room.

Adam connected a secure device to the main system. Files started transferring to Selene's network. Evidence of illegal transactions, hidden accounts, and corrupt dealings—everything Kane had worked to hide—was now in Adam's hands.

Suddenly, alarms blared. Kane's men had discovered the intrusion.

Adam grabbed Lina's hand. "We're not leaving without sending a message."

With precision, he triggered a controlled digital explosion—shutting down communications, scrambling accounts, and sending Kane a clear warning: Adam was no longer hiding.

They exited through a side door just as armed men rushed the room. Bullets ricocheted around them, but Adam and Lina disappeared into the streets, vanishing like ghosts.

Selene's voice came through Adam's earpiece. "They're furious. Kane will strike back hard. But we've crippled him. For now."

Adam looked at Lina, her face pale but determined. "This is only the beginning," he said.

Lina smiled, despite the danger. "Then let's make sure we finish it together."

Outside, the city stretched silently before them, unaware of the war that had just begun.

And Adam knew one thing: Kane would not stop. But neither would he.
