Chapter 17 - The Night She Chose Him

The pack house had grown quiet.

Night wrapped the forest in deep silver shadows, the moon hanging low between the tall trees. Most of the pack had already gone to sleep after a long day of patrol and training.

But Lia couldn't sleep.

She stood outside Kael's room, her fingers trembling slightly.

Her heart felt heavy… painfully heavy.

This is the only way…

The Fairy Court would never stop hunting her. And if they discovered she had bonded with the Alpha of a werewolf pack, they would come with armies.

Kael would fight.

The pack would fight.

And people would die.

Because of her.

Lia closed her eyes briefly.

Just one night…

One night where she could belong to him.

She pushed the door open quietly.

Kael was inside, sitting at the edge of the bed, shirt half open, his dark hair slightly damp from a late shower. The scent of forest rain and warm cedar filled the room.

His golden eyes lifted immediately.

Locked on her.

For a moment he didn't speak.

Because something about her was… different tonight.

"Lia?" His voice was low, rough. "Why are you still awake?"

She stepped inside slowly.

Moonlight spilled through the window, painting her skin in pale silver.

Kael's gaze followed every movement.

Predatory.

Hungry.

Curious.

Lia walked closer until she stood between his knees.

His brows furrowed slightly.

"You okay?" he asked quietly.

She didn't answer.

Instead, she lifted her hand and placed it lightly against his chest.

Kael went completely still.

His heartbeat… strong. Steady.

Warm.

For a moment she just stood there, memorizing the feeling.

Then she leaned down and kissed him.

Kael froze.

It wasn't like the small kisses they had shared before.

This one was slow.

Deliberate.

Her lips lingered.

Soft… but dangerous.

His wolf stirred immediately.

"Lia…" he murmured against her mouth.

But she didn't stop.

Instead, she kissed him again.

Longer.

Her fingers sliding slowly along the back of his neck.

Kael's hands tightened on the edge of the bed.

Something about this felt different.

Not playful.

Not shy.

Intentional.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"What are you doing…?" he asked quietly.

Lia smiled faintly.

But there was sadness behind it.

"Courting you," she whispered.

Before he could react, she slowly slipped her outer shirt off her shoulders.

Kael's breath caught.

The moonlight traced the soft curve of her collarbone, the delicate lines of her body.

His wolf surged violently inside him.

"Lia…" His voice dropped into something darker.

Dangerous.

"You should think carefully about what you're starting."

She stepped closer.

Until his hands were almost touching her waist.

Her fingers traced lightly along his jaw.

"Maybe I already did."

Kael stared at her.

Searching her face.

Trying to understand.

"Is this what you want?" he asked quietly.

There was a rare seriousness in his voice now.

Not teasing.

Not dominance.

A question.

A real one.

Lia looked at him.

At the man who had protected her.

At the Alpha who watched her like she was the most important thing in the world.

Her chest tightened.

She nodded softly.

"Yes."

That was all it took.

Kael's control snapped.

His hands suddenly grabbed her waist, pulling her onto the bed beneath him in one powerful movement.

Lia gasped softly as her back hit the mattress.

Kael hovered over her, golden eyes glowing faintly.

His expression had changed completely.

Predator.

Mate.

Obsession.

"You're dangerous tonight," he murmured.

His fingers brushed slowly along her side.

Testing.

Feeling the slight tremble in her body.

"You walk into my room… kiss me like that… and expect me to behave?"

Lia bit her lip.

Her heart was racing so fast she thought it might burst.

Kael leaned down slowly.

His lips brushed her neck.

Then her jaw.

Then the corner of her mouth.

Each kiss slower than the last.

Deliberate.

Claiming.

"You're shaking," he whispered against her skin.

His hand slid lightly along her waist.

"But you're not stopping me."

Her breath caught.

Because he was right.

She wasn't.

And part of her didn't want to.

Not tonight.

Not this once.

Kael finally looked into her eyes again.

Something dark and possessive burned there.

"If we cross this line…" he said quietly.

His thumb brushed her lower lip.

"There's no going back."

Lia's chest rose and fell slowly.

"I know."

He studied her for another long moment.

Then his voice dropped into a deep whisper.

"Then tonight…"

His lips brushed hers again.

"…you're mine."

The moonlight filled the room as the night slowly deepened around them.

And outside, the forest remained silent.

Unaware that this moment would change everything.
