Chapter 365: Three and Two
The pattern held its shape for the fourth cycle in a row. Three short pulses. A pause. Two longer ones. Forty seconds, then it started again, identical, like something repeating a sentence until someone finally understood it.
Kai stayed down longer than he meant to, letting Dragon Predator Mode hold the read instead of forcing it. Forcing a read never worked on anything that wasn't trying to fight him. This wasn't fighting him. It was waiting for him to catch up.
Three. Pause. Two. Not random. Not a greeting, repeated. A structure, offered the same way twice, then a third time, then a fourth — patient in a way nothing this young should have been capable of being.
He surfaced slowly, the cycle still running behind him at the markers.
"Anything?" Soren had his instrument case open across his knees, pen ready, the page still blank.
