Chapter 372: Six Days Either Way
Kai found the rider before dawn, saddling up by lamplight at the edge of camp. He hadn't slept. He hadn't tried to.
"West road," Kai said, and held out the letter. "Same as the last one. Straight to GeneCorp's Kael's Seat office, not the Guild post."
The rider checked the seal, turned it once in her fingers, and tucked it into the courier bag without comment. She'd carried letters both directions enough times now not to ask whose wax it was.
"Six days," she said. "Same as always, weather holding."
"I know." Kai watched her mount. "Tell him nothing extra. Just that it's from me."
She was gone before the sky had fully greyed.
Soren found him still standing at the road's edge. "You didn't wait for morning to send it."
"I didn't want to read it a fourth time." Kai turned back toward the fires. "Every read after the third one is just looking for a reason not to send it."
