Synopsis
In a divided city where power isn’t voted for but spoken into existence, a secret hierarchy rules from the shadows. At the top sits the Don — a figure as untouchable as a prime minister, chosen not by the people, but by a rare, overwhelming ability tied to a phrase so powerful it shapes reality itself. In this world, some people are born with abilities derived from famous phrases — short lines that carry immense symbolic meaning. A boy who inherits “Actions speak louder than words” can mute opponents’ powers unless they physically act. Another with “Time waits for no one” can accelerate or slow moments around him. These phrases define status, wealth, and survival. Two boys from the lowest district — reckless, ambitious, and tired of living powerless — discover they each carry dormant phrases thought to be myths. As their abilities awaken, they realize they might be capable of something unheard of: challenging the Don. But rising through the ranks isn’t just about strength. The world is controlled by syndicates, enforcers, and “Orators” — elite fighters trained to weaponize their phrases with precision. Every victory exposes deeper secrets: the origin of phrases, the truth behind the Don’s rule, and the cost of power itself. As the boys climb higher, their bond is tested by betrayal, ambition, and the growing realization that overthrowing the Don might not fix the world — it might break it completely. In the end, they must decide: Do they want to change the system… or become the very thing they set out to destroy?

Chapter 1 - Anhedonia

"Hey bro!"

"Yeah?"

"I just wanted to say-"

"WOOO HOOO! OH YEAH BABAY!"

"Shut it, you freak, everyone's staring at us!"

*buzzer sound* "Nuh-uh, Taiga, everyone's staring at me!"

*Shin smiles at the camera with his white teeth glistening in the sun's rays*

Shin Kurosawa was an outgoing 17-year-old who had dyed his naturally black hair blonde in order to, and I quote, "look as stylish as possible - black hair is sooo out right now." He was of average height with a great physique and frame - working out was a major part of his life. He spent his days wearing a myriad of bright, floral-patterned shorts and burdened himself with the very difficult choice of choosing between his favourite Street Fighter shirt or the 17 other duplicates of the same shirt in his closet - that was when he wore a shirt at all.

Taiga Kurosawa, on the other hand, was lanky, and much more slender than his twin. He stood at 6'2 while only weighing a bit more than Shin. This lack of weight comes from his extremely picky diet and countless allergies. There are more foods Taiga is allergic to than he isn't, meaning he can only eat from home -- no fast food allowed. With the exception of Berry Town's most famous restaurant: 'Triple Bite'.

As a matter of fact, this is where the two boys are headed right now. Taiga is at the helm of their bike while Shin blissfully enjoys the view at the rear.

"Those two boys are going way too fast - are they trying to kill themselves?!" Exclaimed old grandma GiGi as she bore witness to two teenage boys barrelling down the road on their rusty, discoloured bicycle.

"Ignore them, Grandma, you know what the Kurosawa twins are like - everyone does." Replied her young granddaughter Silver.

The two orphans continued at a breakneck speed down the street, passing by the lively neighbourhood.

"Hey Shin, when are you gonna return our lawnmower?!" Asked an old man sitting lackadaisically on his front lawn.

"Love you too!" Replied Shin

"Gimme my football back." Declared a dejected child on the sidewalk

"Even better, we'll get you 100 footballs -- so many you'll be begging us to stop." Retorted Taiga.

"R-really!" The little boy spoke with a cheesy smile, grinning from ear to ear.

"Of course! We are many things, but lying is something we will never do -- pinky promise!" Exclaimed Shin with his chest puffed out as if basic human decency was something to gloat about.

The brothers were fast approaching the right turn Google Maps was telling them to take, before a familiar face appeared. Before them, stood their plump friend Shig - a boy of small stature yet larger-than-life confidence and ego.

"Oi, Shin!" "You better give me back my controller right here, right n--"

Shin and Taiga palmed his face before he could finish his sentence. The boys leaned as far tl the right as they could and, using Shig's face as a pivot point, effortlessly made the turn without losing much speed. Shig spun in place like a Tasmanian Devil to the delight of the townsfolk watching nearby. Hurricane Shig finally ended when the boy landed on his ass, knocked out from all the spinning.

"BAHHAHHAHAHA!" The twins chuckled, both distracted from the black SUV charging straight at them.

"He looked so stupid (HAHAHA) - right Taiga?"

Taiga stared ahead blankly.

"...Taiga?"

*HONK! HONK! HONK!*

The driver, who was watching cat videos on his phone, went from giggling like a schoolgirl to screaming like one.

"I'll tell everyone you died a hero (especially Silver), jumping in front of a cat to save its life -- how honourable" Said Shin as he clasped his hands in a praying motion before leaping from the back of the bike to a nearby tree looming over the sidewalk.

"I'LL EAT YOUR SHARE AT TRIPLE BITE -- DON'T WORRY YOU WILL BE AVENGED!" Screamed Shin with tears in his eyes.

"AVENGED MY ASS, YOU BASTARD!" Replied Taiga

*CRASH!*
