Chapter 3: The Shadow King
The voice didn't belong to a wolf. It was too deep, too melodic, carrying a weight that made the very air around Elara feel heavy.
From the shadows of the ancient trees, a man stepped out. He was tall, dressed in charcoal black, with eyes that pierced through the darkness like twin sapphires. Beside him, the giant black wolf sat obediently, its golden eyes never leaving Elara.
"Who are you?" Elara stammered, trying to stand up, but her legs were still weak from the bond-breaking agony. "This is... Silver Moon territory."
The man let out a dark, dry chuckle. "Silver Moon territory ended five miles back, little wolf. You are in the Void Forest now. My domain."
Elara's breath hitched. The Void Forest? This was the land of the outcasts, the place where even Alphas feared to tread. And if the rumors were true, there was only one person who ruled this darkness.
"You... you are the Shadow King," she whispered, her heart racing.
The man stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. He tilted her chin up with a cold finger, studying her face. His gaze lingered on her eyes, which were still shimmering with that strange silver light.
"A rejected Luna with the eyes of a Goddess," he murmured, more to himself than to her. "Kaelen is a fool. He threw away a diamond thinking it was a stone."
Elara flinched at the mention of Kaelen's name. "I am just an Omega. I have nothing."
"An Omega?" The Shadow King smiled, a dangerous, sharp expression. "No, Elara. You have no idea what is waking up inside you. Kaelen didn't just reject a mate; he rejected a power that could bring his entire pack to its knees."
He reached out a hand toward her. "The question is... do you want to die here in the dirt? Or do you want to show them what a real Queen looks like?"
Elara looked at his hand, then back toward the direction of her old pack. She thought of the laughter, the humiliation, and Kaelen's cold eyes.
Slowly, she placed her hand in his. "I want them to regret the day they breathed the same air as me."
