Synopsis
He woke up in a dead man’s body. The book in his hand suggested this was intentional. The body belongs to Dorian Voss — a young nobleman of Vaelmoor’s High District, cursed by his own family and left to fade quietly while they attended to more important matters. The city is the wealthiest port in the known world: Gothic spires above the fog, gas lamps over cobblestone streets, and secrets older than the families that guard them. The book is something else entirely. Whatever he writes inside it becomes real. A lock opens. A fire starts. A door appears where no door existed. The power is not unlimited — it is proportional to his strength, and right now, his strength is almost nothing. But it grows. And somewhere in Vaelmoor, at least four different organizations are about to notice. One worships the light and knows more about darkness than it has ever confessed. One has been searching for lost pathways for centuries and just found a lead. One investigates crimes it doesn’t have the vocabulary to describe. And one — the most dangerous — already knows exactly what he is. They are not ready for someone who can rewrite what happens next. Neither is he. But he’s working on it.

Chapter 1 - 0.5

The Pathway

In this world, power is obtained through Pathways — ancient systems of ability that

transform those who walk them. Each Pathway has ten Grades, descending from Grade 9

(the weakest) to Grade 0 (divine).

The Absolute Scribe Pathway is one of the rarest in existence. Its practitioner wields a single

artifact: The Book of Truth. Whatever is written inside it becomes real — but only within the

limits of the wielder's current Grade.

The stronger the practitioner, the larger the truth they can write.

The Grades

Grade 9 The Scribe

Grade 8 The Narrator

Grade 7 The Author

Grade 6 The Reality Editor

Grade 5 The Character Creator

Grade 4 The World Writer

Grade 3 The History Editor

Grade 2 The Plot Master

Grade 1 The Fate Writer

Grade 0 The Absolute Scribe

The Book of Truth

The Book is not carried. It is summoned — through will alone — and appears in the

practitioner's hand whenever needed. When not in use, it leaves behind a single mark on the

wielder's right hand: a red star, seven points.

The Book accepts any writing instrument. What matters is not the ink — it is the intention

behind the words.

The Cost

Every act of writing drains the practitioner physically and mentally. Small sentences cost

little. Large, complex writings can be devastating. Writing beyond one's Grade triggers The

Transformation — the practitioner becomes the character or event they wrote, losing

themselves until the energy fades.

The Book does not forgive imprecision.

The World

The story takes place in Vaelmoor — an independent port city in the 19th century, where

steam-powered ships crowd a harbor ringed by Gothic stone buildings and gas-lit streets. It

is the wealthiest trading city in the known world, governed by a council of merchants, and

home to secrets older than its oldest families.

Three continents shape this world. Vaelmoor sits at the center of them all — by geography,

by commerce, and by the particular density of things best left unexamined.

Key Factions

The Church of Light and Truth — the dominant religious institution in Vaelmoor. Publicly

devoted to clarity and divine illumination. Privately aware that some things in this world do

not fit neatly into their doctrine.

The Ashen Compact — a secret society dedicated to recovering lost and forgotten

Pathways. They are scholars first. They are also patient, well-funded, and already looking in

the right direction.

The Vaelmoor Civil Authority — the city's law enforcement and government. Competentwithin normal parameters. Entirely unprepared for anything outside them. Their special

division for "irregular incidents" has recently started a file they do not yet know concerns

the protagonist.

The Unwritten — founded later in the story. More on them when the time comes.

The rest will be written as the story unfolds.
