Thinking of the missed photo, Zoe Rhodes felt her heart clench. A sudden wave of sadness washed over her.
She didn't know what Zane Hawthorne was thinking, but she felt a profound sense of regret now.
She had thought they would see each other again the next day, that there would be plenty of time to take the photo then...
From Zane Hawthorne's perspective, he would never get to have that photo taken.
Zoe Rhodes sighed heavily.
At that moment, she was so completely immersed in her sorrow that she totally forgot she was still in Zane Hawthorne's private lounge, and that she had just discovered he might be in love with her.
The office door was thrown open. Seeing that the door to the private lounge was open, Zane Hawthorne almost forgot to breathe for a second.
The office door closed softly. He stumbled toward the lounge, his steps unsteady.
He stopped at the doorway.
He didn't know why, but he was suddenly overcome with the trepidation of a long-awaited homecoming.
