Chapter 143 - Chapter 143

Walking down the hallways of the apartment building, Alan saw it clearly, the entire apartment building had changed, what he had seen yesterday was now nowhere to be seen.

The hallways looked ruined, blood ran throughout the entire area and most of the doors were broken in as if they had been thrashed open by someone or rather something.

Walking inside one of the neighbouring rooms that had its door open, he was met with the sight of a dead human body, the man was completely naked, it didn't look like he had any injuries besides one, and that one was his head, it was completely gone, ripped out of his neck and then placed on a chair next to the living room couch.

'What… the fuck.' Alan thought as he looked around the room, blood was everywhere, clearly tearing someone's head off from their body in a complete decapitation wasn't a clean process. The couch where the man was laid on, or at least his headless body was, was completely covered in blood that had already turned thick, staining the white couch until it was practically completely red.

'They do have increased strength, now the question is whether it was that woman who did this or was it something else?' Alan thought before shaking his head as I walked around the room, finding a small fridge near the open kitchen and taking any drinks he could find, two energy drinks, a bottle of water and then proceeding to take a few canned tunas as well as some bread. There wasn't much else on the fridge and so with that taken care of, Alan quickly walked out and headed right back into his apartment and put everything he had managed to take into his own fridge before straightening up once more and looking towards the door.

'I don't know how long this thing will last, however I'll make sure to take this time to grab as many things as I can whilst around here, maybe even find some kitchen knives or some other weapons.' Alan thought as he once more walked out of his apartment room, searching through the hallways of his floor and entering into every apartment that he could.

He had yet to find a single living being besides the monster that he had encountered at the start, everyone was dead in rather gruesome ways.

'That makes three decapitated bodies, one that was just straight up torn in half, one that had its legs torn off and another that had all four limbs removed. Though… none of the body parts were missing, so that means that whatever killed them, didn't kill them to eat them, nor was there any missing blood. So… this thing that's doing this isn't killing humans for food like a vampire would… That makes this even more annoying, at least something that hunts for food can be predictable, something that just does it for some random reason or maybe even for fun is… quite annoying to deal with.' Alan thought before releasing a long exhausted sigh at the entire situation and turning his head to look towards the elevator at the end of the hallway.

'I should call that security guy again and get to ask if the elevators are safe and if he has seen anyone else alive and on which floor they are. Currently I don't possess any of my powers, though I'm stronger than a regular human physically, it's not by much, the best trait that I have is my stealth and the fact that I can hide my presence much better than any regular human. But still, without my weapons and magic, it's better to group up.' Alan thought as he walked towards the telephone on his wall and called the number once more.

*Ring* *Ring*

After a while, the security picked up once more.

"Did you search for food? I saw you in the cameras, I'm unsure what you did since the cameras dont really transmit voice as well as they should, however it seems to have worked." The man on the other side of the line spoke.

"I did, but that's besides the point, what I wanted to call and ask was if you got into contact with any of the other living humans. I want to know which floor they are on and which floors are safe. Is the elevator safe? I need more information. In this kind of situation, we should group up. Alone we won't be able to do anything towards those monsters, they clearly have superhuman strength but together we might be able to take one down if it does attack." Alan asked, his voice steady and calm as he addressed the man on the other side of the phone line.

For a moment, silence reigned in the call, the man didn't respond to his words for long enough that Alan thought he wouldn't get an answer at all and would just get hung up on.

"There are others alive. Since the last time that you called, they did call me as well thankfully. There's a girl on the third floor and there's a couple on the sixth floor. I haven't noticed anyone else alive on any of the other floors. Floor five, where you are, floor six and floor three are currently safe. Floor four is unknown as the cameras have been broken completely. And the other floors… they each hold at least one of those things that you met up with." The man spoke, the voice that carried through was clearly tired and exhausted, be it from being unable to sleep or from something else was unknown.

"I see… then can you call them and ask them if they wish to meetup and group together, it would make it easier in case some of them don't want to. That way I wouldn't have to take an unnecessary trip towards their floor." Alan asked as he gave a nod of his head, though the man on the other side wouldn't be able to see it.
