Chapter 26 - Friends

"Mr. Charles… do I look like a cute bunny?"

His grip on the steering wheel tightened.

A cold sweat broke out across his forehead.

This was the third time his young Miss had asked him the same question.

He had learned better than to answer her carelessly. Lynn had a habit of dissecting every answer he gave her, followed by a series of questions that would leave even the most prepared person completely stumped.

So, he did the safest thing he could think of.

He kept quiet.

But as the silence stretched on, Mr. Charles began to question his very existence.

Three times.

The same question.

As simple—or ridiculous—as it might have sounded to an ordinary person, he knew better than to underestimate the way his young Miss's mind worked.

"Young M—Miss…"

He realized silence was no longer an option.

His mind searched desperately for an acceptable answer. Even his soul seemed to be scrambling for one.

Dear God, please help me.

"A cute bunny?" Lynn muttered.

"She should have said kitten instead. Why a bunny?"

Her voice broke through his thoughts.

"What?"

Mr. Charles's face displayed more fear than surprise.

His young Miss rarely cared about other people's opinions of her. So what had happened?

Or rather…

Who had she met?

Whatever—or whoever—it was, he couldn't say he disliked the change.

Perhaps it was for the better.

Her apology had somehow backfired and turned into another opportunity for Kacy to tease her.

She still couldn't believe how easily she'd been caught off guard when Kacy had spoken so playfully earlier.

"Kim, don't be mad at her, okay? Ease up your face muscles a bit. You're gonna make my cute bunny cry…"

That was all Kacy had uttered after her funny trial of apology.

And somehow, those few words had made her eye twitch.

Lynn had turned to Kim for help, but Kim had remained completely calm.

That was when Lynn realized something.

Kim was used to this side of Kacy.

A small smile appeared on Lynn's lips.

"Since Kacy isn't mad, I'm not either. You're forgiven. And yes… we can all be friends…"

She paused.

"…AS LONG as you keep your experimenting hands off her."

Kim had made a condition.

Lynn didn't care.

Friends.

The word sounded so good.

Her first real friends.

She had a feeling that this was the start of something so beautiful
