Chapter 17 - Gift of Xarius

"Oi Gaster!" Nate screamed walking inside the Lab's main room with a piece of paper in his hand. Gaster looked up at him, indicating that he was listening.

"I've been doing a bit more research on my soul and I was lead to this.." he stopped.

"Lead to what?" Gaster asked.

"Who is Xarius?" Nate asked holding the paper. Gaster stood up and snatched the paper from Nate, He read the paper full of notes that Nate had written, researching his soul.

"Xarius is the OverGod of Trace, according to the research I've conducted" Gaster stated.

"Trace?" Nate asked.

"He knew almost everything about everyone, Back when the OverGods used to reign. His ability being Trace which resided in his eyes, His left eye told him the stats of the target, also showing the strengths and weaknesses, while his right eye, named the Chishikagi, had the ability to manipulate one's stats. Xarius was a very powerful OverGod, who was able to seize Nations... His only weakness being himself..." Gaster explained.

"What do you mean his weakness was himself" Nate asked again.

"He wasn't fit for close combat, although he could manipulate other's stats he couldn't manipulate his own..." Gaster sighed.

"Thanks for the info, because now I want to try something" He said. Joseph busted in at the end of Nate's idea looking desperate and bored.

"What's wrong with you?" Gaster asked.

"I'm sooooo booooooorrreeeed" Joseph dragged. "Can we do something outside?" He asked.

"Perfect timing Joseph... We're going on an adventure!" Nate smiled. Joseph's frown turned into a grin as he jumped around in the other room with excitement. Gaster just sighed as he tied a book to the back of his robe and tucked a piece of paper there.

"What's that?" Nate asked.

"You sure do have a lot of questions for the holder of the Intelligence" Gaster claimed, rolling his eyes.

"heh, sorry" He replied, rubbing the back of his head. Nate, Gaster and Joseph walked to the front of the lab, Nate being excited to test his idea and Joseph being excited to get out of the lab. Gaster slid the front door open he was surprised when he saw Gabriel standing at the door just about to knock on it.

"What're you doing here?" Gaster asked.

"I uhhh came here to train my physical abilities" Gabriel stuttered.

"Leave" he demanded.

"But-"

"Why doesn't he come with us?" Nate interrupted.

"Yeah! Come with us Gabriel!" Joseph.

"ehhhhh.... fine.." Gabriel said. Gaster rolled his eyes and walked passed them out of the alley. Nate followed behind him and so did Joseph as he signaled for Gabriel to follow them too. The four walked down the streets of Shadyhearth passing all of the people, homes and shops as they reached sign that marked the limit of the Shadyhearth City-District. They entered a trail that lead East of the Forest of Astmarsh going a different way instead of into the forest.

"Our destination isn't that far so try and keep up" Gaster sighed. The boys stared deep into forest hearing the sounds of the different monsters and animals and even feeling a bit of the godly essence flowing from the forest itself.

"Hey Gaster! What's this feeling?" Gabriel asked.

"Hm?" Gaster peered over his shoulder, indicating that he was listening.

"Like... I can't explain it.." He stuttered.

"We feel it too" Joseph said.

"It's probably the essence of the MidGod pouring from the forest" Gaster explained.

"No wonder" Nate replied.

"Keep walking" Gaster demanded. Gaster then looked into the forest also feeling the same essence they did. As they walked Joseph froze and had an expression of terror on his face.

"Why aren't you moving?" Gaster asked as he turned around and faced him.

"I'm just s-scared... and I d-don't wanna move" Joseph stuttered

"Listen... You will never succeed if you don't do anything at all, and right now action is the foundational key to our success in moving forward" Gaster shouted. Nate walked up to Joesph and carried him on his back, bringing him forward and catching up with everyone else.

"This is gonna take longer than it should..." Gaster sighed.
