Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: All Show and No Substance

Nancy Sutton watched everything coldly, her lips slightly curved, full of mockery.

"Keep tearing, I've got plenty left to let you go crazy."

Joy Sutton was enraged by Nancy Sutton's words, and strode up to her, intending to slap her.

Nancy Sutton wouldn't let her have her way and swiftly grabbed Joy's hand in mid-air with great force.

She slowly tightened her grip and twisted it to the side. Joy Sutton's face turned pale instantly, and she screamed in pain, feeling her wrist was about to break.

"Let go of me, it hurts!"

Simon Grant couldn't stand it anymore and also spoke up.

"Nancy Sutton, let her go!"

Nancy Sutton remained aloof, looking coldly at the couple, exhibiting utter disdain.

She released Joy Sutton's hand with an air of indifference.

Then, she pulled a tissue from the counter and gently wiped the hand that had touched Joy Sutton.

As if she had touched something dirty.

Joy Sutton's eyes burned with anger, but she dared not act rashly, having just been taught a lesson.

Nancy Sutton didn't want to continue this melodrama with them, so she pressed the desk phone.

"Security, bring some more people over and get them out."

Soon, a few security guards came in and escorted Joy Sutton, Sharon Warren, and Simon Grant out.

The security guards were already aware that the chairman position had changed hands, as company-wide news had announced Nancy Sutton as the new chairman, replacing Sharon Warren.

The three were unceremoniously escorted out of the reception room, and a man witnessed the entire scene—he was the man who had followed Nancy Sutton that day.

After the trio left the company, he slowly withdrew his gaze.

Not saying a word, he also left the Sutton Group.

In the city center, inside the Quincy Group's skyscraper, a familiar face appeared—the same man who had been seen at the Sutton Group an hour ago.

The man, calm and collected, detailed to the boss sitting across from him the series of events he had witnessed.

Liam Quincy played deftly with his pen, propping up his head with his left hand, expressing some admiration.

"I didn't expect Nancy Sutton to have some tricks up her sleeve."

Could it be he misjudged her? Nancy Sutton doesn't seem like someone who would cling to power.

Liam Quincy pondered for a moment, suddenly freezing.

Why was he so concerned about that woman? It was really strange, but he dismissed it.

Liam Quincy shook his head to himself and raised his hand to signal his subordinate to withdraw.

Meanwhile, Sharon Warren returned to the villa, simmering with anger, pacing back and forth in the living room.

In the end, she couldn't resist picking up the phone to call her daughter, Joy Sutton.

Joy Sutton was at the shopping center, shopping. Since Simon Grant didn't help teach Nancy Sutton a lesson, he wanted to compensate Joy with money.

To help Joy vent her anger.

Joy Sutton was shopping enthusiastically when a sudden ringtone disrupted her, her eyes involuntarily showing impatience.

But upon seeing the caller, that impatience abruptly vanished.

"Hey Mom, what do you need?"

Sharon Warren felt unwilling, full of things to say, but didn't want to bother her daughter, so she went straight to the point.

"We need to prepare to deal with Nancy Sutton properly, make her pay a price."

Joy Sutton immediately perked up upon hearing this from her mother, and the two quietly began plotting their scheme.

On Tuesday morning, Nancy Sutton dressed in a white shirt paired with long black trousers, her hair tied in a high ponytail, her entire look simple yet fashionable.

Just as she got out of the car, she was surrounded by two people.

It was Joy Sutton and Sharon Warren.

Before Nancy Sutton could say a word, the two suddenly knelt before her in public.

Suddenly, Nancy Sutton's eyebrows furrowed, showing some displeasure.

Unclear what tricks these two women were playing.

Unknowingly, the surrounding gazes converged on them. Nancy Sutton pretended not to see Joy Sutton and Sharon Warren, deliberately avoiding them.

She did not spare them a single glance.

Unfortunately, this scene was captured by some onlookers and posted online, instantly sparking a discussion among netizens.

The company forum was also abuzz.

Group B's Yvonne Sutton: Have you seen the pictures online?

Group A Leader: I did, didn't expect the new chairman to look glamorous but be so cold and heartless inside.

Group B's Yvonne Sutton: Yes, after all, they are stepmother and stepsister, how can one be so ruthless?

Group C Leader: Let's stop talking, since we don't know the real facts, spreading rumors like this! Be careful if the assistant sees it.

Group A Deputy Leader: What's to fear, the assistant also dislikes that new chairman, I just chatted with her.

Thus, the single fair statement from the Group C Leader was quickly buried by the heated discussions, the company forum was ablaze with indignation, supporting Sharon Warren and Joy Sutton.

Momentarily, Nancy Sutton became someone looked down upon in the company.

Nancy Sutton sat in her office, still unaware of the situation, she looked at the clean desk without any documents, somewhat puzzled.

She then pressed the desk phone and called the assistant.

The assistant walked in slowly, displaying an arrogant attitude.

"What's the matter?"

Nancy Sutton furrowed her brows at her attitude but couldn't be bothered to argue.

"Where are the documents I need to sign?"

The assistant, reacting a beat behind, let out a long "oh" and replied leisurely.

"I'll go get them now, I forgot all about it."

Nancy Sutton was only left feeling confused.

"What?"

Before Nancy Sutton could lose her temper, the woman didn't care and walked straight out of the office.

Nancy Sutton could only stand there feeling speechless.

How did such a person become an assistant?

Thirty minutes later, the assistant still hadn't brought the documents to Nancy Sutton, and she was feeling impatient, ready to go out to find someone.

As she passed the restroom, a familiar voice suddenly reached her ears.

It was the assistant!

The assistant was touching up her lipstick with a red tube, complaining.

"That new chairman, really has the nerve to order me around."

Next to her seemed to be the assistant's friend, who chimed in.

"Really thick-skinned, others kneel to her, and she doesn't even glance, such a bad person, don't give her face."

The assistant nodded in agreement, feeling satisfied with her makeup, her face radiant.

"People like that are just surface-deep, if she were to show her true skills, she'd have nothing to show."

Nancy Sutton quietly sneered; she hadn't expected such ignorance in the company, truly giving Joy Sutton and Sharon Warren a run for their money.

She patiently dealt with such passive-aggressive people and quietly made up her mind.
