Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Preliminary Suspicions

Polly Sutton turned to look at Victor Parker, thinking his tone made him sound like her dad.

"Thank you, Miss Lowe." Polly Sutton said and then looked at Victor Parker, "Is that okay now, Dad?"

Victor Parker: "..."

Polly Sutton turned around and left. If Isabella Lowe had picked it up, she would have thanked her, but the receptionist had already put it away. What kind of game was Isabella Lowe playing?

Given her relationship with Isabella Lowe, any help from her usually came with ulterior motives.

"Being young means being a bit more willful, but when we were her age, we didn't dare to be so audacious." Isabella Lowe chuckled softly, as if merely making an observation.

Polly Sutton suddenly stopped, taking a deep breath before turning back to Isabella Lowe, "Do you know why, Miss Lowe, you couldn't be so reckless at my age? Because you lack a fatherly husband."

Polly Sutton felt satisfied watching Isabella Lowe's face change slightly, then she playfully waved cat-like claws at Victor Parker, "Dad, hurry back, okay."

Victor Parker: "..."

What's with this woman? Always so annoying.

Annoyingly hilarious.

Isabella Lowe watched Polly Sutton enter the elevator, hiding her irritation well, "Victor, I didn't expect you to like this kind of girl."

"Really, I didn't expect it either." Victor Parker said and then left as well.

Isabella Lowe's smile froze completely, as Victor Parker's previous remarks were ambiguous, but this almost confirmed he liked Polly Sutton.

Polly Sutton muttered to herself, grumbling about Victor Parker's controlling nature. As she exited the elevator, she saw Michael Knight's assistant with a medical kit entering a room. Polly Sutton paused at the doorway and peeked inside.

"Polly?"

Michael Knight approached when he saw Polly Sutton, "Sorry, did I bump into you again just now?"

"I must be incompatible with your fans, never a single escape from trouble." Polly Sutton leaned against the door holding her backpack, noticing the red mark on his forehead, "Did you bump into something?"

Michael Knight raised a hand to touch his forehead, "I just didn't see the glass door coming in, nothing serious though."

Polly Sutton cringed at the thought of the pain, realizing once again that nothing was easy.

"Last time we went to the mall there wasn't this kind of issue."

"I'm technically working all the time now, so any time is work time." Michael Knight shrugged slightly, leaning against the door as well, "I heard you went to Mr. Yang's place today, anything interesting?"

"No interesting findings, but I did have an encounter." Polly Sutton enjoyed chatting with Michael Knight, his conversations always left a pleasant feeling.

"Oh really, that's something, isn't it?" Michael Knight chuckled, "Was he more handsome than Mr. Parker?"

"Victor Parker handsome? Are you blind?" Polly Sutton was still a bit annoyed, remembering how Victor Parker had made her thank that scheming woman.

"Hahaha..." Michael Knight laughed heartily, glancing at someone approaching and still teased, "You and Mr. Parker married because of love?"

"Your heart might be blind too, a man like Victor Parker, except being lonely for life, there seems to be no other possible outcome for him." Polly Sutton waved a hand, "I woke up too early today, need to catch up on sleep, you should apply your medicine properly."

Michael Knight smiled as he saw Polly Sutton off, then noticed Victor Parker walking over with a dark expression.

"She might be right about one thing, you are more suited to be lonely for life." Michael Knight looked at Victor Parker with a faint smile, rarely seeing him angry, as upsetting Victor Parker was no easy feat.

But with Polly Sutton, it seemed remarkably easy.

Michael Knight watched Victor Parker leave following Polly Sutton, his smile fading a bit, "This love-after-marriage thing never gets old!"

After making that comment, Michael Knight turned around and asked his assistant to help with his medication.

Polly Sutton returned to her room, tossed her bag onto the sofa, and then lay down on the bed, yawning until tears came, and quickly fell asleep.

When Victor Parker entered, he saw her sprawled on the bed, sleeping like a little piglet—she sure fell asleep fast.

Andrew Lindsey came by and whispered something in Victor Parker's ear.

Victor Parker casually pulled the blanket over her without the slightest gentleness, then turned to leave, "Have Michael come to my room, and get a few people to keep an eye on Polly Sutton."

Andrew Lindsey complied and went to call the necessary people.

Michael Knight came over after applying his medication, sitting directly on the sofa and looking at the person seated by the window with a computer, "Why call me over at this time?"

"There's a problem with Eden Young."

Michael Knight: "Eden Young?"

He came here as the spokesperson for the MR·yang family brand, "Haven't noticed any issues."

Victor Parker turned to Michael Knight, "Cancel the collaboration project if you can; don't say I didn't warn you. This person doesn't just have a problem, possibly a significant one."

Michael Knight furrowed his brow, when Victor Parker asserted there was a problem, it wasn't just significant, it might involve unpredictable consequences.

"I'll have the company make arrangements. Mr. Parker, you didn't come overseas just for Polly, are you investigating something? Will it affect Polly?"

Victor Parker closed the laptop in front of him, "She's my wife, you're overly concerned."

The way Michael kept mentioning Polly, one might think Polly and Michael had some unspeakable relationship.

Andrew Lindsey returned, prompting Victor Parker to leave.

Andrew Lindsey came back with information Victor Parker had previously asked him to investigate.

"Miss Sutton was born in a mountain area of Cloudland, orphaned young, got accepted into University A's architecture department for a simultaneous bachelor's and master's program at fifteen, the only grandfather left passed away, and she never went back." A simple life path, almost devoid of any twists and turns.

Victor Parker stood by the window with hands behind his back, watching the people outside, thinking how tragic it all sounded, but if it was true, for her to live so carefree would be rare indeed.

"She got accepted to university just as her grandfather passed, meaning her past just became stories in other people's mouths." Victor Parker spoke slowly, "So what's Eden Young's intent to diligently deceive such a person with no background into coming here?"

Andrew Lindsey didn't know and thus had no answer.

"Did the old lady insist on her marrying me just because of what happened at the bar?"

Now it seemed, perhaps the bar incident wasn't accidental either.

Polly Sutton slept until it was dark, waking up and rolling around a few times on the bed before coming to, she checked her phone for messages. Emma Turner had sent initial concept sketches, revisions based on Polly Sutton's concepts, accompanied by several questions she and her colleague thought of.

Polly Sutton took note of those questions, got up to grab her backpack, took out a sketchbook to make comparisons, not noticing some things seemed stuck in the spine of the sketchbook.
