Chapter 16 - Dread

Alexander heard about Rafael leaving and became worried. He suspected that he had found her and she wasn't well.

*RINGING*

The last class was over and he went to find his sister in the forest. She was with Callum and they seemed to be enjoying each other's company.

"Where have you been?" Alexander wondered

Callum smiled, "Did you need me?"

"I don't know." Alexander sighed

Callum seemed a bit conflicted and was in thought. Before he could say something, the twins' eyes changed green and released aggressive energy. They advanced forward to the annoying presence they felt.

They found two hooded people. Alexandra advanced in between them and made flames to separate them.

" Kids?" one reacted " Did they escape?"

"Escape?" the twins thought

One removed its hood, revealing a smiling woman and she took out a hand that had wrapped sweets.

"If you come back to the Daycare with. I'll give these to you." she smiled

Alexander frowned, "Why would I want that?"

"What?" the woman exclaimed

Alexandra jumped over her brother towards the woman and aimed to punch her. Alexander ran towards the hooded person behind. Claws hovered over Alexandra's hands and she swiped at the woman quickly.

Alexander made earth spikes aimed toward the hooded person's vitals. The hooded person had daggers floating around and one stabbed into the child's leg.

"Something's wrong with these kids. I think they're not from the Daycare or they've run rouge." the hooded person yelled "Let's get out of here. We have a mission to compete."

"If we stop them, it will put a dent in the enemies' plans." the twins thought analyzing the new information

Alexander removed the dagger and advanced again and the blades came flying toward his vitals this time. More cuts formed on his skin but the hooded person had noticed that the child was becoming better at dodging his attacks.

"He's studying me!!" the person thought creating more distance

"What's wrong?" the woman went dodging Alexandra's attacks

The person removed his hood, revealing a man, "End it quickly."

The woman was about to answer when a cut developed on her neck and she backed up. The twins' eyes burned brightly. Dangerous, the adults thought at that moment.

"We have no experience fighting skilled people. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't underestimate us." Alexander said

A thick fog rolled in and the pair of green eyes vanished into the fog. This made their uneasiness skyrocket.

Alexandra came from behind, the woman raised a sword and collided with her. The child quickly retreated into the fog and advanced towards the woman's legs using the trees. Alexander made the fog around the man turn into clawed hands and slash down at him.

"GO WITHOUT ME!!" The woman yelled

The man emerged from the fog. Alexander's senses seemed to enhance as he ran after him in pursuit. The tree branches twisted downward to form steps for Alexander to follow after the man. The wind intensified around the man as the fog hands stretched ahead of Alexander.

The man's thigh and the man turned around in horror. He saw a child with strong green eyes like that of a young beast learning how to hunt. His breathing became haggard and he threw his daggers backwards. Now dread overwhelmed him as Alexander got closer.

The child was injured and as he advanced he hit the trees on several occasions. Although now his movements were becoming better and the man knew that when Alexander got the hang of it, he'd be dead.

"Hopeless..." voices whispered around the man

"SHUT IT!!" The man yelled

A tree in front of the man formed into a board and Alexander shot past him and held onto the board. Alexander looked at him. "You heard it?"

A dagger slashed at the child's chest, but luckily he moved backwards, making the wound shallow. The fog hands spread out around the man and those cold green eyes were in front. Voices told him of his situation and yelled at him.

This is how the caught prey must feel, the man thought. Hunted, cornered, and overwhelmed, wanting to live but was destined to die. The man was attacked by Alexander who now figured out how to use the fog hands together with his assaults.

Alexander finally landed a fatal blow and his eyes seemed to brighten. The man coughed up blood and stood his ground.

Callum watched from a distance with a surprised look and exclaimed, "Beautiful."

Alexandra had made herself an artificial tail that hovered near her tailbone. She learned that she needed balance to assist her leap efficiently. Like her brother, the battle was coming to an end as she ripped her head off his shoulders.

"Dirty things, infecting the forest." the twins had frowned when the adults died

All the spirits in the forest heard it and were in a hidden location. A man opened his eyes with a shocked expression. "It's time."

"Why did I say that?" Alexandra wondered after saying it

*TING*

She looked for something on the ground, and froze when she saw a necklace with a pendant on the ground. Her fingers were shaking as a memory returned to her. A woman with the necklace around her neck, she couldn't see her face and her sweet voice affectionately said, "My Angels-"

Her shaking hands opened the teardrop-shaped pendant with scratches from the attempts to remove what was inside. The sky clouded and rain fell to the earth as she looked at a photo of her and her brother as toddlers.

Hopeless. She cried bitterly, why couldn't she remember her face, what did she do wrong to take her memories? Alexandra yelled to the quiet heavens loudly and only harsh thunder followed.

"At least...how did she look...did she smile when she said my name?" Alexandra asked, "Why!?"

*DING-DONG*

"Rafael," said Tyler who managed to get home said from the door

Rafael looked at the twins at the door in the vicious rain. They looked back at him hopelessly, covered in wounds and blood. He picked them up quickly without a second thought and said nothing. What could he say to make them feel better?

"Am I cursed?" Alexandra asked hopelessly
