Rafael couldn't respond even with all his knowledge. Any words he wanted to say were caught in his throat, so silence followed.
He treated and bandaged their wounds and managed to lull them to sleep. Alexander gave him an envelope he obtain from the adult he killed.
" Thanks, bud," Rafael said
He switched off the light and went to the living room. He grasped his hands together and rested his forehead on them in thought. In front of him were all the clues and information they collected.
"Was I wrong?" Rafael went
"So why the hell did you let them into the case in the first place, if you were going to regret it? " Paisley frowned
" They want to find the truth." Rafael went
"THEY'RE CHILDREN!!" Paisley reacted
Rafael stood up and glared at her, "So what? What are you trying to say?"
"Quit it. Listen to this." Tyler interrupted
Tyler had opened the envelope given to Rafael. There was only a letter inside. It read: " All the Lords have arrived. You need to start the next phase."
"What?" Paisley went
Rafael frowned, "We cut their communication. This message wasn't sent due to the twins so we have a little more time."
"Yeah, but how much?" Tyler frowned "We don't even know the plan."
"I have...an idea," Rafael admitted
Paisley frowned, "WHY HAVEN'T YOU TOLD US?!"
"It's just an idea. Are you sure?" Tyler said firmly. "If not, there's no point in telling us."
"It could be of some help." Paisley disagreed "Anything is alright at this point."
Tyler and Rafael were silent as she spoke to herself. Rafael kept his mouth shut and continued thinking about the case.
They hadn't found Kate yet. As well as one of the organizations has something called Lords which he believed was the Top Brass. Luckily, he found Tyler on his way home with Lucielle.
"They are getting rid of the baggage of the group. They want to do something big." Rafael thought "Think. Everything is connected, I just need to figure it out."
The school is a farm for kids with high energy and they will get the curse mark. Several people in town watched the townspeople and kept tabs on them and gave them to higher officials. Evil energy users need to suck the vitality and the younger the better.
Something is jamming all means of communication with the outside. The Mayor's body is gone, three years ago all the buildings were redone because they wanted them to be unrecognizable. Delmira was trying to get Rafael's attention.
"The Police Station is preventing me from looking around their files too." Rafael thought "Should I-"
*BANG* BANG*
"What's going on?" Paisley frowned
The source was the door and Police officers broke through. Rafael saw they were trying to hide the smirk that wished to form on their faces. Behind the officers were Brenda and Leonard.
"WHAT ARE MY CHILDREN DOING HERE!!??" Leonard yelled
Rafael replied with a flustered expression, "They...they got injured near the forest. They didn't want to go home."
"As a T.E.A.C.H.E.R, why didn't you make them!" Brenda shouted, "Damn, busybody!"
The guardians marched in. Lucielle was being dragged harshly and her wounds were beginning to bleed again. The girl tried to pull back without exposing her abilities and the large woman gripped harder on her wrist.
"QUIT IT!!" Brenda shouted
Leonard pulled the unwilling twins as well. The twins were aware too, that using energy in public wouldn't pacify the situation. They'd probably be hunted down as monsters.
"I DON'T WANT TO!! JUST IGNORE ME LIKE ALWAYS!!" Alexandra yelled
Leonard brought his hand down, and Alexander received the slap from his sister. Leonard gapped.
"I don't go with you either." His son said, "You did something to mum."
Leonard's eyes popped out and he picked up the twins onto his shoulder. The twins hit his back yelling they didn't want to leave.
"WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO US!!" Lucielle yelled, "WE'RE NOT WRONG!!"
Brenda punched the girl and continued to drag her. The children stretched out to Rafael and his group with pleading looks. Rafael stepped forward, and the officers pounced and pinned him to the ground.
"LET ME TALK TO THEM!!" Rafael asked "PLEASE!!"
"Hurry!" An officer told the parents
"HEY. He can just talk to the kids while you here. Why are you doing this?" Paisley frowned
Rafael's eyes glowed as he raised up his body. He was hesitating to use his energy and looked at the kids being forcefully taken home.
"PLEASE!!" Rafael frowned "EVEN JUST A MINUTE!"
"Rafe?" Paisley went "Please. You can hold me instead."
*BARKING*
Tyler turned to an officer trying to snatch the briefcase from Delmira. She growled violently as his blood dripped from her mouth.
"Sorry. This mine." Tyler smiled "Contents are the secret ingredient for a product of my company."
"We...still need it," the person said
Tyler frowned, "For what? What type of child with fit in a flippin' briefcase, you idiot?"
The officers backed away from Tyler's oppressive aura. They had forgotten about the briefcase since Sylvia couldn't unlock it but why did the Police need it? Rafael's chest throbbed and felt like something snapped.
"Again..." Rafael mumbled, "They were a step ahead."
Rafael dug his fingers into the floor. The organization played him like a fiddle and he messed up. His lower lip bled slowly and he hit his head down.
"Hurt....everyone hurt." Sylvia frowned "Want...you to smile."
The ghost began to cry and made a wailing sound. The officers only let go of Rafael when the evening and returned laughing with each other. Rafael looked at his hand, "So close..."
Tyler and Paisley now understood a little, the words wouldn't come out. Rafael's eyes were filled with panic and emotions they thought he didn't have. His trembling hands were the only evidence of the fear inside him.
"They're okay right?" Rafael went "Their guardians are obviously better than mine right?"
"I...I don't want to lie to you." Tyler answered looking away
Tyler couldn't face the face Rafael would back. To their surprise, Rafael bolted out the door with Sylvia.
"RAFAEL!" Paisley yelled
Tyler smiled bitterly," I don't blame him. After all..."
