CHAPTER START---
"Ahhh," Oberon breathes out, emptying his lungs and clearing his mind.
It was morning in Magnolia, and he was sitting with his legs crossed on Macao's couch.
The apartment was tiny, only one bedroom. In fact, it was so small that he could hear Macao snoring, still recovering from his night out with Gildarts.
But Oberon didn't really care. All he needed was a couch to sleep on.
Feeling his Magic Container filled up once more, he opens his eyes and gets ready for the day. Taking a quick shower, and throwing on a pair of black shorts, matching sandals, and a blue T-shirt.
He brushes his teeth and looks at the clocks, seeing it's already 8 AM.
"Master should be at the guild already," he mutters quietly.
Looking at himself in the mirror, he can already see his skin slightly less pale after spending all day in the sun.
A strange change after a lifetime on a snow-capped mountain. Then he looks at the guild mark on his inner right forearm, still there.
"So it wasn't just a dream, that's mean I get some kind of Magic lesson from Master Makarov today!" he yells excitedly, then slaps a hand over his mouth and listens.
But doesn't hear Macao respond.
"I should go before I wake him up," he look at his bag on the couch before he leaves, and decides it can stay here.
'Fairy Tail seems like they fight a lot, so I should leave the pictures here in case they damage it...' he wisely decides before leaving the apartment.
Stepping outside, he enters the alleyway beside the building. This apartment was on the second floor but the entrance was a set of stairs in the alleyway.
Oberon quickly descents the stairs and is immediately on the main street of Magnolia.
He looks around, seeing the cafe which operates below the apartment already open and serving a few customers.
Opposite them is a flower shop, and the man who owns it was using a Water Lacrima -A crystal which stores Magic and can be activated for later use-. The Lacrima was the size of an apple, and from it, water was gently being sprinkled onto the plants at the storefront.
He can't help but smile at that sight.
For years he's heard about how abundant big cities in Fiore are with Magic, either via mages or Lacrima, and now he was seeing it.
No, he was part of it, because he's a Fairy Tail Wizard.
He takes another look around and sees one customer in the cafe reading a book, and on his face was a pair of simple glasses with wings extending out from the frame as part of the design.
The glasses were glowing, and a screen was being projected between the man and the book, taking the words from the page in and quickly feeding it into the glasses.
Every second or two the man would turn the page,
"Gale-Force Reading Glasses," Oberon mutters. "Master said I could use those to read grimoires faster..."
With that, he walks through the street toward the guild.
Making small observations while taking careful steps down the cobblestone street not to bump into the few people that are already up after a night of partying.
"Ok, so I need to get some of those glasses, especially since Master said he has books for me to study."
He begins counting on his fingers.
"But first I need to find the best way to practice my Magic.
Then I also need to make money, but for that I need to go on jobs... I guess I'll ask about those and how they work when Master thinks I'm ready for them.
Ok so first practice Magic, then do jobs to get money, then buy those glasses to learn faster. Then I can learn smaller Magics that might make the jobs earlier.
Like that Magic master uses the make stuff appear in his hand, I think he called it Requip, I'll ask about that sometime.
Sucks that I can't learn teleporting, that would have made things super easy.
But I guess that's everything, and eventually I'll buy my own Magicycle, then I can go places where there aren't any trains. At least I won't have to walk."
He stops for a moment, then facepalms. "I'm so stupid, Gildarts said with my Magic I should be able to fly!"
He continues walking, thinking it over. "But, maybe the Magicycle takes less Magic Energy... but flying lets me move quickly since I can just go over mountains and stuff, and water.
But Magicycles seem so cool.
But flying is also super cool.
Wait, I can't go around flying everywhere, because then people would always be around me asking me stuff. So a Magicycle would definitely attract less attention than a flying man."
With that, he jumps through enough mental hoops to justify his decision.
"Then it's decided, I'll buy a Magicycle, now I just need 2 Million Jewel, or was it 3 Million?"
As he rounds the corner and is on the final approach to the guild, he then realizes something.
"But I don't even know how much money 1 Jewel is... I never had to use money back home. Well, I guess when it's time to take a job I'll find out."
He pushed the thought aside, then sees something interesting.
The last stretch leading to the raised area of Magnolia where the guild sat was almost entirely deserted.
Oberon spots the top of the guildhall in the distance, directly ahead of him, and decides to do something daring.
Something he would have gotten into trouble for back home.
"Master said that Wizards live and breathe Magic, so I guess it would make sense for me to use it more often, and it'll help training, too. Yeah, so I should try it."
With that he crouches down into a sprinters stance, placing his fingers on the ground.
He closed his eyes, focused, and a magic circle appeared below him. It glowed for a moment before disappearing.
'RISE!'
He takes the most powerful and massive leap his 8-year-old body could muster.
And suddenly he was nearly 100m -330ft- forward and three stories above the floor.
"WoooO!" he yells as he begins to spin and tumble through the air, almost immediately losing his stability as his feet leave the ground. "Weightlessness is gonna take some practice!" he yells in a panic.
Focusing his mind and body, he tries to keep his eyes locked onto the guildhall, and eventually realizes he's still quickly approaching it.
He then floats higher, above the rooftops of nearby buildings, the very buildings that were protecting him from the strong morning winds in Magnolia.
WOOSH!
He instantly loses sight of the guild hall as a strong breeze knocks him higher into the air.
Caught in the wind, he's spun and flipped, screaming at the top of his lungs, but before he knew it, he was hundreds of meters above the city and nobody could hear him.
"Cancel!" he screams out, stopping his Magic in an instant.
And for a moment there is actual calm, until the wind rushes past his face as the ground begins suddenly approaching.
"AhhhhhH!" he screams, trying and failing over and over to focus his mind and call upon his Magic.
And only in the last few dozen meters does the Magic Circle appear below his falling body, slowing his momentum rapidly.
He sees the rooftop of a building close to the guild hall below him and can only brace for the impact.
Blocking his face with his arms and hoping for the best.
CRASH!
The sound of shingles shattering and a child screaming echoes through the street...
---Fairy Tail Guild Hall, 8:15 AM...
Sitting on the bar counter, Makarov was the only one in the entire building.
He was having a cup of coffee and reading this week's issue of Sorcerer Weekly, a famous magazine detailing all the latest Magic related news, gossip, trends, or items up for sale in Ishgar.
Taking a sip of his coffee he enjoys the peace and quiet only these mornings can provide.
'Looks like the Magic Council is seriously considering banning assassination-type requests from official guilds, well it's about damn time.
Hmm, and they're keeping an eye on the number of incidents involving Charm Magic. It doesn't work if the target knows it's being used, but I'm sure a lot of its victims would rather it be banned entirely. Removing a person's free will is a horrific thing to do...'
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
His head snaps to look at the main doors, knowing none of his brats would ever knock so politely.
"Come in!" Makarov yells.
The door slowly opens to reveal a middle-aged man with a tired look on his face, and beside him is Oberon, covered in cuts and bruises, with a buster lip and some swelling on his face.
"What happened to him?" Makarov immediately rushes over to inspect the boy.
The man steps aside and folds his arms. "I wanted to take him to the hospital, but he refused, said he just needed time to heal it himself or something."
"Yes, he will be fine," Makarov says rather casually, surprising the man. "Now, what happened to him?"
"He crashed into my roof," the man says.
"What?"
"Sorry," Oberon mutters. "I tried to jump far... the wind took me too high up, then I got scared. Sorry Master."
Makarov sighs and shakes his head.
The man frowns. "Honestly, mister Makarov, the mayor is always on his last nerve with Fairy Tail. The day of the festival isn't the time to be causing a commotion."
"I know, and I truly do apologize for this. Oberon is just new, and a child gifted with talent in Magic can be a bit—"
"No need to explain," the man says. "Obviously I won't be reporting this or anything, heck I live close to the guild because you guys keep the Dark Guilds away, but I'd appreciate you sending someone to fix my roof."
"Thank you, and I'll have someone there immediately."
"Just glad the kid is alright, enjoy the festival, and I can't wait to see the parade later," the man says as he leaves the guild hall.
As the man closes the door, only Makarov and Oberon remain.
He sees how ashamed the boy is, some dried tears already on his cheeks, blood, cuts and bruises everywhere.
And he laughs.
A deep and true laugh.
"So your first try at flying ended like this, huh!" Makarov laughs some more. "Well, at least you can't get any worse, so how about we get the real lessons started?!"
