From what I knew of spirits, they were free moving bodies that were never present in a single place for a long time. The only way they existed was with the Prescence of an anchor, which is why spirit artists always made their physical body the anchor to use their arts and skills.
In that case, to control this large number of spirits and also maintain them for supposedly at least 300 years would mean there's an anchor somewhere within the constraints of this area that's been controlling these disasters.
I'm still not used to controlling my energy as in my last life, my body couldn't even handle a lot of energy. So, I decided to circulate my energy a bit and then focus on detecting my surroundings to see if any difference can be seen via my envelope energy. Everything was first black as I closed my eyes, then as I circulated my energy across my body I slowly expanded my field of vision to self, which was the first step in the envelope energy circulation. Then I hastened the circulation to overload and then let the energy drain out via the pores of my very body. This was an extremely painful process as needles piercing my body though I guess they're exiting my body. I shut my mouth and had to control myself from biting my tongue. The overflowing energy needed to be slowly let out from the pores in a controlled manner otherwise I'd probably explode like a bomb which is the best-case scenario.
I slowly extended my envelope throughout the lands to however far it could go. I made it similar to a very thing layer as thing as silk fabric and with the extension it covered everything within the border of the land. I could see that both riot and Mertiana could feel my energy which I'd spread across but couldn't pin point the source.
I looked here and there while ignoring the dirty stuff. Then I noticed it.
The anchor was none other than Mertiana. That would explain how this lasted so long and how the mana never ended. The spirits were bleeding her dry (get it, bleeding her dry cuz she's a vampire) of mana which would explain why she fainted previously. Usually, the only way to stop spirits is by killing off the spirit artist but that's definitely not an option here. I could sever the link between Mertiana and the spirits but I was seeing thin lines as many as 100 connected from her and there's no saying what might happen if I did snip it off.
I decided to retract all my energy and went towards the house where riot and Mertiana were staying. I knocked on the door and when riot answered I pulled him outside.
"Have you never thought about escaping this hell hole?" I asked.
He gave me a look as if saying 'obviously dumbass' so I didn't pursue the matter anymore.
Do you even know why you all are stuck here? To which he said no so I pointed towards the house and said "Her, she is anchoring spirits here, did you or did you not know about this? The people here have been living like this for over 300 years and I doubt you didn't but I will tell you this.
I am Mertiana's father, you may find this hard to believe but this is the truth. I will save you all from this predicament and then I will decide whether you're truly fit for my daughter or not. Now you will have to help me. The spirits are tied to her, and there are a little over 150 of these bastards stuck to her like leeches. I plan to eradicate around 140 of them and leave 10 so she will still have powers to support herself. The eradicating process will be painful considering she's had her mana drained for a long time. YOU will have to take over some of her pain into your own body so the stress will be minimized on her."
"You just love spewing some bullshit don't you saying Mertiana has kept us all trapped here and that you're her father and shit like that" then Riot attacked me. He took out his claws and slashed at me which I couldn't block in time so I had a nasty slash on my arms.
I quickly wore my gloves from my waist by slipping my fingers through them then proceeded to envelope myself. "its always fighting with you werewolves isn't it. I'll beat you to the ground and make you submit to me you fucker."
I quickly dashed towards riot who also came dashing towards me and we both punched each other and we both flew away. The other werewolves and vampires noticed the commotion and decided to come out and see what was going on. None of them decided to join in I don't know why. The werewolves kept screaming Riot's name and he rose from the rubble far away. I wasn't damaged much because of my envelope and I too stood up. I dusted my dress and then we dashed at each other again. Trading blow for blow. I was starting to wear out in this all out brawl and Riot noticed it.
He retracted his claws and punched me but this time I broke through two buildings and crashed at the border. I didn't wanna have to do this but it was dire. I reverted my gloves back to their treasured form. Two gauntlets, pitch black in color, each pretty large for my body and yet light as feathers. I could feel their power trying to consume me but I regained control as well.
I used envelope to power up my legs and jumped up towards the sky. I controlled it just enough hat I reached the top of the dome and took in a bit of the spirit energy and then used envelope to again boost back down towards riot. He was ready to receive this hit. I starting spinning and used the torque to increase my damage output. "Meteor crash" I screamed (quite embarrassing I know but I had to do this at least once) and I hit riot right on target. Mertiana jumped out from the cabin and used her mana to create a shield in front of riot which did not protect him enough. He knew he couldn't have tanked it and instead ended up losing his arm and almost half his face.
I guess even through the 300 years of they didn't practice their founder's arts enough.
Riot started regenerating his limbs but it was happening at a very slow pace so no way he was joining the fight again. I glared down at him and put my foot down on him, "you wanna fight again punk?"
