Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 - It's Gone.

Savannah's House

Savannah fumbled through her purse, turning it upside-down, and hoped desperately that the folded note would simply appear out of the thin air. The clutter was sailed past by her fingers old receipts, lipstick, a few coins--and, still nothing. A sigh escaped her lips as she tightened the straps and shook it as if it owed her something. But it was gone.

Het start pounding rapidly and scrambled up upon her feet, and ran to the closet, banging the door open in a way that made the hangers dangle. Her outfits today was arranged neatly, but her focus was elsewhere to notice that, she plunged headlong down the jacket pockets, her jeans, every pockets, poking at the stuff, peering under the stitch, with a kind of mad desperation.

She checked again. And again. And again.

Nothing.

A knot twisted in her stomach.

The atmosphere was more oppressive as she stood still for a moment in front of her closet, hoping that it would somehow show her what she wanted.

She shut her eyes closed, attempt to slacken her mental pace, but it was of no help. She was hot-tempered right now.

Where could it possibly be?

Her mind wandered everywhere searching for the answer until her mind clicked and goes back to her bed, grabbing the she dialed someone and waited it to be answered, after third ring came a voice from other end of the phone, "Hello?"

"Arthur?" Savannah said. She had dialed Arthur's number.

"Yes," Arthur replied, "What happened Ms. Miller?" He asked further.

"Do you happen to be at the mansion?" Savannah wasted no time and the question hoping he would say yes.

"No, Ms. Miller, I'm actually outside for some work." But for her unfortunate she didn't get the desired answer.

"Why? Something happed Ms. Miller?" Arthur further questioned, his voice showing a little, totally invisible concern.

"I think I left something back at the mansion, so wanted to check if you could check for me," She said her voice was now a little low, and there was a silence on the other end for a second.

"Alright Ms. Miller, I'll check for you when I return back," Arthur reassured her, and Savannah nods which of course couldn't be seen by Arthur.

"When will you go back?" She asked further, so she would know the estimate time because she was pensive about that, her only way to know what had really happened to Ms. King.

"About an hour or so." He answered, "Okay, then do let me inform if you happen to find it." Savannah said.

An Hour Later

The Clock Strikes 1 AM now, and Savannah was still awake waiting for a call from Arthur who an hour ago assured her that he would inform her, but she hadn't heard anything from him, did he forget? Should she try calling him? So many questions yet she can't answer any.

Ring-Ring

Her phone which lay beside her on the bed rang pulling Savannah from her thoughts, she looked up to see Arthur's name.

"Hello," she answers.

"Hello Ms. Miller," Arthur on theother end of the phone responses back.

And Savannah now awaits the answer from him, she was impatient as of this moment.

"Ms. Miller, the men searched everywhere, but did not find anything," he informed, which made Savannah lose her hope, a sigh escaped her lips, "Are you certain?" She again asked with a little bit of a hope that had still left.

"Yes, Ms. Miller, we searched thoroughly, and I don't think it's here" he again "Are you sure you dropped it here?" he questioned her to be more specific about the lost thing.

This question made Svannah think, she wasn't sure if she dropped it exactly at the mansion, maybe she had dropped it on her way home or way to the restaurant or maybe at the restaurant?

"Ms. Miller, can you provide me some information about where you been after leaving the mansion, I can some people to search," Arthur further offered his help.

But she declined," No, thank you for all your help so far, I'll manage."

Baldwin's Mansion

It was around 2 in the night, and Blaze found himself unable to sleep. It had been a while since he heard a phone call of Arthur with Savannah, and his mind was restless. Sitting on his bed, shirtless, he decided to distract himself by going through some files. After finishing up, he got up and made his way to the window of his spacious room, which offered a panoramic view of the surroundings. Retrieving a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, he lit one and exhaled a stream of white smoke as he gazed out into the night. Lost in thought, he eventually left his room, seeking solace in the quiet of the night.

Walking down the stairs, he opened the main door to the mansion and strolled out with a cigarette still in his right hand. The men on the door outside bowed to him in respect as he passed by. As he walked further into the yard, he called out, "Luke," and one of his men turned to face him, bowing and standing at attention. Blaze smoked leisurely as he addressed him, "Did you clean my bookshelf?" The man looked up and replied, "Yes Boss, it was me." Blaze nodded and exhaled a puff of smoke in the man's direction.

Advancing towards him, Blaze sneered, "You worthless bastard," and cruelly pressed the cigarette into the man's eyes, causing him to scream in agony. With relentless force, "You thought I wouldn't know," Blaze continued to inflict excruciating pain, rendering the man helpless on the ground. The spectators watched, unperturbed by the brutal scene unfolding before them, as Luke received the punishment orchestrated by Blaze.

After gouging the man's eyes, Blaze callously removed a piece of the damaged eye and discarded it. A dog eagerly seized the gruesome offering, relishing the macabre meal. Satisfied, Blaze gestured to the dog, directing it towards its feast – Luke, the unfortunate victim of the night.

It seemed Blaze's anger was much more than of that bookshelf reason.
