Kasumi hesitated. "Two against one? Mai, that's… that's a bit unfair, isn't it?"

But Mai didn't wait for her answer. With startling speed, she pulled a small pistol hidden at her belt and aimed straight at Ryosuke's head. The bullet sliced through the air, whistling toward his temple, the impact jerking his head slightly to the side. Yet Ryosuke remained unfazed, and in an instant he had straightened again, a calm smile on his lips as if nothing had happened. Not a scratch, not even the faintest mark.

Frustrated by her failure, Mai clenched her teeth, a flicker of irritation crossing her eyes. Kasumi, meanwhile, realized it was her chance to act. Silently, she slipped behind Ryosuke, sword gripped tightly in both hands, cursed energy flowing along the blade until it shone with a fierce glow. She aimed precisely at Ryosuke's back, drew a deep breath to steady herself, then lunged forward with a powerful thrust.

But the moment the blade struck, it met an unexpected resistance. Instead of piercing through, it rebounded violently off his body, the force hurling Kasumi backward with shocking power. She crashed to the ground, gasping for breath, eyes wide in disbelief. It was as if she had struck an unbreakable wall of steel.

Ryosuke, who had watched it all with unshakable composure, slowly turned toward Mai, almost ignoring Kasumi as she struggled to stand. He stepped closer, calm as ever, and before Mai could react, he seized her wrist with unyielding precision.

"Well now, it's not very nice attacking me two against one, don't you think?" he asked.

Mai shot him a sarcastic smile. "And who said there were only two of us?"

At that moment, a presence emerged from Ryosuke's left. Without a sound, Mechamaru had approached, his red eyes glowing intensely, like embers in the morning light. Slowly, he pressed his metallic hands against Ryosuke's side. Almost instantly, a surge of cursed energy burst from his palms, crackling like fire and engulfing Ryosuke in searing heat. The impact triggered an explosion, sending a thick cloud of smoke billowing around him.

Kasumi, who had regained some balance, rushed toward Mai and Mechamaru, worry written all over her face. She cast a nervous glance at the swirling smoke, trying to catch a glimpse of any silhouette within.

"Ryosuke… is he okay?" she whispered, her heart pounding.

But Mai and Mechamaru stood firm, eyes locked on the smoke, bracing themselves.

Seconds passed, heavy silence filling the air, broken only by the faint crackling of cursed energy fading away.

Then, the smoke slowly thinned, revealing Ryosuke—standing, perfectly unscathed, in the middle of the wreckage. The stone bleachers around him, however, bore deep cracks, some sections shattered entirely under the strain of the attack.

Ryosuke shrugged. "Well, I hope you're planning to pay for the repairs."

The three of them froze, stunned, struggling to comprehend how he could withstand such force without a single wound. Kasumi, still wide-eyed, cast a questioning glance at Mai, while Mechamaru stared at Ryosuke with an unreadable expression.

This guy… Who was he, really?

They barely had time to think before Ryosuke struck.

In a blur, he appeared before Mechamaru. The towering machine couldn't even raise an arm to defend before Ryosuke's foot slammed into his side. The impact thundered across the arena, twisting and hurling Mechamaru backward. His massive body scraped across the stone floor with a harsh screech before crashing down in a cloud of dust. He tried to rise, but his circuits crackled, unable to handle the damage.

Kasumi, horrified, tried to intervene. Her sword rose in an instinctive reflex, fingers tightening on the hilt—but she never got the chance to set her stance. With terrifying agility, Ryosuke was already behind her. She felt a sudden, sharp strike in her back, a burst of pain shooting up her spine. Her breath caught instantly. His kick sent her flying like a leaf on the wind. She hit the ground hard, her sword slipping from her grasp as she rolled across the sand, fighting to breathe.

Meanwhile, Mai, anger and fear flashing in her eyes, lifted her gun again without hesitation, aiming at Ryosuke. Her fingers trembled slightly. She squeezed the trigger—but the instant the shot rang out, Ryosuke vanished from her sight, only to reappear at her side.

Like a ghost, he slipped to her right, so close she could feel the heat radiating off him.

Before she could react, Ryosuke seized her wrist, his iron grip snapping shut like a vice. Mai grit her teeth, immobilized, her eyes widening in shock and helplessness. He looked at her with a crooked smile, an almost gentle, yet cruelly mocking glint in his gaze.

"Mai, it breaks my heart to see you pointing a gun at me like that, you know?"

Mai struggled, tugging against his hold, but his grip was unyielding, pinning her in place. Around them, the entire arena had fallen silent.

A few meters away, Kasumi, still sprawled on the ground, forced herself to move despite the ache in her body. She lifted her head just enough to see Mai trapped, defenseless, while Mechamaru, still lying in the rubble, strained helplessly against his broken frame.

Against Ryosuke's overwhelming strength, one thing became clear: they weren't just outmatched. They were utterly crushed.

Ryosuke raised his hand, a faint smile still on his lips, and said calmly:

"I think we'll stop here, don't you agree?"

Kasumi, still on the ground, eyed him warily. But he stepped closer, gently offering her his hand to help her up. After a brief hesitation, she accepted, finding her footing again, her cheeks slightly flushed. He then turned toward Mechamaru, who was still struggling to rise despite his damaged circuits.

"Mechamaru, sorry… I might've hit a little too hard," Ryosuke apologized. "You okay? Nothing too serious?"

But Mechamaru didn't answer. Kasumi, understanding his nature, explained softly: "He's probably already abandoned this body. Another Mechamaru is likely on its way to take over."

Ryosuke scratched the back of his head, looking embarrassed. "Ah… I didn't know how much force to use on him. Sorry, really."

Then, shifting the mood, he clapped his hands together and turned to Kasumi with a warm look. "I have to say, you've got amazing control over your cursed energy, Kasumi! Your technique is really precise. But… your reserves are a little limited, aren't they?"

Kasumi nodded silently.

"That's not a problem, don't worry," Ryosuke continued. "Actually, you should lean into your precision, invent techniques that don't demand too much energy. With your control, you could do wonders."

Kasumi gave him a shy smile, clearly touched by the advice. But when Ryosuke turned toward Mai, she crossed her arms, looking slightly uneasy.

"And what about me?" she asked, trying to mask her nerves.

Ryosuke shot her an amused, slightly teasing look. "You, Mai? Well… you're the weakest, sorry. Your CE reserves are so low I wonder how you even manage. But your innate control—that's impressive."
