Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Events In Space

Far away in space…

A blue asteroid could be seen destroying other asteroids as they came in contact with it despite its little size.

Earth;Kayne's room.

Figurines of superheroes and cartoon characters are arranged on a shelf filling up a quarter of the room.

The rest of the room was a big bed and a study corner with lots of free space.

Kayne was sketching on his tab while in the small space reserved as a study.

He was one of the best webcomic authors specializing in supes.

Although his parents didn't support it when they still cared about him.

He grunted as his phone buzzed from a notification.

"God why would they compare me with 'Halo'?. He draws romance comics for God's sake."

As he picked up his phone expecting another frustrating comment from a netizen.

He was shocked when he saw an unknown number's message adding to his initial three chats.

"Hey Kayne. It's me Jenny"

"What the hell. How did she get my number" Kayne muttered furrowing his eyebrows.

He then went to check the profile picture.

'She's really the one'

Kayne was disturbed by her sudden interest in him.

'What does she really want with me?'

He stood up and went to the mirror removing his glass.

In front of him stood a guy who was around 178cm tall with distinct grey eyes and well chiseled jawline.

Smiling at his reflection, Kayne put on his glasses again, and watched his reflection this time.

He chuckled at his mediocre appearance caused by the prismatic glass.

'Maybe when my glass fell down she saw my face'

Kayne shrugged, as he returned to his study corner.

Oraycon Mission Control Center (OMCC)

A large and dark room, illuminated by screens of different sizes of monitors.

The room was filled with operators and staff.

Behind these workers was a middle aged woman, with short black hair paired with brown eyes that were hidden under her horn rimmed glasses.

She was carefully watching the footage of the mutated asteroid,as it collided with and destroyed the others.

Beside her was a man who looked to be in his early forties with brown hair and eyes.

They both were on an elevated platform behind the operators.

The man squinted "can I get a clearer image of the asteroid?"

Immediately the footage was zoomed in displaying a blue asteroid looking as if it was on flames.

The asteroid continued to journey through space as though it had a mind of its own; its targets were carefully picked.

"Stop,"Charles shouted as he frowned.

Looking at the middle aged woman beside him.

"Kira, do you notice it?"

Kira intensely gazed at the screen.

"No no no no. This is bad"

Charles sighed frustrated that he was not wrong.

"This can actually lead to human's extermination"

"Charles, do you think (DART) can deflect this?"

He scoffed "Kira this godamm asteroid is sentient"

Kira became pale immediately.

"That's why it was destroying other asteroids"

Charles nodded while gazing at the screen pensively.

"We must alert the military," she concluded.

Immediately,she left the room.

He just stood there watching the screen intently, captivated by the asteroid sentience.

Finally he muttered under his breadth with a sharp glint in his eyes.

"This would not end well".

….

Zech Headquarters. Research wing.

Many scientists are seen running up and down.

Some are in groups as they all did their thing.

A young scientist sneakingly glanced at his supervisor who was lost in thought, "I heard one of the leaders is an old professor who is close to retiring.

His name is Professor Gates, He is renowned for being disciplined and strict"

The supervisor couldn't help but smile,

"Of course who wouldn't know the genius predator"

The young scientist couldn't help but shiver.

"Thank God I'm not a genius. I hope director Ryan is okay"

Ten leaders could be seen in a large hall watching Ryan as he gives an hypothesis.

One of the leaders is an old professor

"So Dr Ryan you called us all here knowing we're all busy saving the world in our own right to discuss a theory you termed.

Extraterrestrial forces: Preparations for the inevitable?"

Ryan smiled confidently as he bowed to all the sitting leaders.

"Greetings to you all once again. Professor Gates I would like to show you something. I need your insight on this."

He nodded carelessly. Clearly not interested.

Ryan smiled at his reaction and played a video on the screen.

It was the video of the sentient asteroid as it intentionally destroyed other asteroids despite its smaller size.

"How dare you!!! Where did you get this?"

The general in the hall infuriated stood up from his feet pointing his fingers furiously at Ryan questioning him.

Immediately due to the video, the hall suddenly became noisy with the general's outburst worsening the situation.

Ryan smiled as he watched the scene. Only one person was silent in the hall and that was Professor Gates as he watched the footage carefully.

"What do you think professor?"

Ryan's question quietened the atmosphere drawing all the attention to Prof Gates.

He sighed as he adjusted his glasses.

"First I would say I'm amazed by this scene.

But one thing I'm sure about is that this asteroid intelligence is tied to a force, to put it simply someone or something is controlling it.

Although it's orbiting around space it's main goal. According to its movement Oraycon would most likely take a big hit___"

The General cut Professor Gate off proudly.

"This is one of the reasons we keep full details from citizens like you. It's no big deal Oraycon Forces would deal with this." he continued.

"And also the asteroid is a threat, but I wouldn't regard it as a major threat. So just sit back and watch things unfold just like a civilian you are"he ended while exchanging cold glances with everyone in the hall.

Ryan smiled calmly as he pointed to the screen.

"With all due respect, General, what if this isn't just a threat? What if this asteroid holds keys to unlocking something greater? Its movements are obviously sentient.

Imagine what understanding such intelligence could mean for human evolution."

"Evolution?" The general smoothened out his brow, trying to ease his frustration.

"Evolution, Evolution, Evolution. That's what you guys go about saying. You don't actually have a purpose anymore right" The general said, looking into Ryan's eyes.

The room was tense as Ryan and the general exchanged fierce confrontations using their gazes. None yielding.

Professor Gates adjusted his glasses, definitely a habit.

"Calm down, General. Dr. Ryan is not wrong. The asteroid's sentience is clear, and anything that operates with intelligence deserves to be studied before taking rash actions. We don't need to repeat history"

General Darius growled. "You'd risk Oraycon being obliterated just to satisfy your curiosity?"

The room was silent. Obviously the others took the side of the scientists.

These selfish bastards never fail to disappoint.

The general thought as he left the hall, but not without his final words.

"I seriously hope you all made the right decisions. As the minister of war I do not support this decision."

Saying these he left

"Leaders shouldn't we talk about how to make good use of this significant opportunity to be in the center of this great evolution?"

Ryan's calm voice sounded in the hall. Disturbing the weighty silence in the room.

"What are the plans concerning resources? I'm sure the economy would probably take a hit."

Ryan replied calmly "That's why everyone is here. You're all leaders in different sectors of life. We need to prepare for the impending storm together."

A quiet old man who had been playing with his watch throughout the meeting smiled.

"I get it now, as the prime minister I'm tasked with convincing the president right?"

"That's right, Prime Minister Edward." Ryan replied, smiling.

What are you exactly?

Professor Gates adjusted his glasses as he gazed at the asteroid on the screen continuously.

Ryan smiled as he watched the leaders make calls in the hall with a cold glint visible only for a second before it became normal once more.

Zech's Mansion:

Kayne was putting on his clothes, smiling with an obvious blush on his cheeks while watching himself in the mirror. His glasses was on the table, meanwhile his phone screen displayed Jenny's chat.

Jenny: Can we meet? I have something important to tell you.

Kayne: What's that?.

Jenny:🥺.

Kayne:Where should we meet?.

Jenny: Valentine's cafe. 9:00pm.

Kayne:Ok.

Kayne felt a pull of destiny, but what the destiny was he just didn't know.

Meanwhile far away in space the blue asteroid beamed, releasing an energy that put off all the satellites in the vicinity.

After the satellites were off, the asteroid started moving at an unbelievable speed that was not reasonable even for an asteroid. Its target; Oraycon.
