Chapter 15 - A Broken System and a First Quest

The Adventurer's Guild was dead silent.

Every adventurer in the room was staring at Yami, their drinks paused mid-air, their conversations forgotten. The black energy from the crystal orb still lingered, swirling ominously.

Even the receptionist—who had probably seen thousands of adventurers register—looked completely stunned.

Yami scratched his cheek. "Sooo… did I do it wrong?"

Rei laughed, slapping him on the back. "Nah, man! You just broke the system!"

Lina sighed. "That's… not a good thing."

The receptionist finally snapped out of it, adjusting her glasses. "I-I've never seen anything like this. The orb couldn't even process your rank properly."

Yami raised an eyebrow. "So… what does that mean? Do I win something?"

Before she could respond—

BANG!

A loud slam echoed through the guild as a large, armored man approached. He had a scar over his left eye and carried a massive battle-axe on his back.

"The hell's going on here?" he growled.

Whispers spread through the crowd.

"That's Gorran, a Grade 4 adventurer…"

"He's one of the strongest in this guild."

"He looks pissed."

Gorran glanced at the still-glowing black crystal, then at Yami. His face twisted into a scowl.

"You some kind of freak, kid?"

Yami smirked. "Maybe. You jealous?"

A few adventurers gasped. Rei grinned, while Lina facepalmed.

Gorran's eye twitched. "Tch. Some cocky brat gets a weird class and suddenly thinks he's hot shit?"

Yami shrugged. "I mean, yeah, that sounds about right."

Before Gorran could grab his axe, the receptionist coughed loudly. "AHEM. If we're done here, I need to process the registration."

Gorran scoffed and backed off. "Whatever. Just don't get in my way, newbie."

Yami grinned. "No promises."

The receptionist quickly stamped a card and handed it to Yami.

[Adventurer Guild Card]

• Name: Yami

• Rank: Provisional Adventurer (Rank TBD)

• Class: Reaper of the Forgotten

• Assigned Quest: Goblin Subjugation (C-Rank)

Yami examined the card. "Goblin Subjugation, huh? Sounds easy."

Rei chuckled. "Oh, you're in for a surprise. Goblins might be weak alone, but in groups?"

Lina nodded. "They're smart, tricky, and don't fight fair."

Yami smirked. "Sounds fun."

The receptionist sighed. "Just… try not to cause any more chaos on your first quest."

Yami cracked his knuckles. "No promises."

With his first quest in hand, Yami took his first official step as an adventurer—

And trouble was already waiting for him.
