Chapter 13 - COUNTERSUIT

Amelia decided to stay at the office that day so that she could prepare herself for the court case the next day. She needed to be fully prepared in case of any trick the perpetrator had up his sleeve.

The message that popped up showed that it was Mr. Alex that was responsible for the mishap of the company but she had a gnawing feeling that it was more than this.

She sighed as she looked at the documents in front of her. She had analyzed the evidence in front of her and with it everything should lead to her succes but she felt an unease within her.

Ann entered the office to meet her in a daze. She light called on the desk and broke Amelia from her reverie.

"I'm sorry ma but Mr. Vincent would like to see you" Ann said.

"Alright send him in" she could be SE some company right now.

One of the reasons she was also comfortable staying in the office was because all through the week Nathaniel had stayed at work so the house was very boring and lonely at home. At work, there was Ann and work to keep her company.

As she was not the one to engage in frivolous activities except when it came to shopping, she didn't want to die of boredom. She was calm in response to the case tomorrow. But she rather her be calm among people than do it in silence.

Mr. Vincent soon entered they room. He had a slight blush on his face as he walked close to her. Amelia just hoped that he hadn't seen her good gesture of rewarding him for his talent and effort as something else.

"Good evening Vincent. I didn't expect for you to be at the office by now. Why haven't you gone home?"

"I saw the news on the counter lawsuit you filled against Vanity Fair House and I asked around and heard you would be staying at the office to prepare for the lawsuit. I decided to stay behind to keep you company if you need it. And also to propose some ideas and concept o had developed for our next phase of the company" he answered.

Amelia smiled. It was thoughtful of him but the contract she signed with Nathaniel prevent led from staying in close proximity for a long and alone with men, so she had to refuse.

"Thank you Mr. Vincent. I truly appreciate you gesture, but you should go home and get some sleep. Remember you would be testifying in court tomorrow. I want you to be in the best of health tomorrow".

"That is why I offered to stay back. I don't know if they might have suspected that I would testify in court tomorrow for the case. I couldn't risk the fact of anything happening to me and ruining the case."

"That made sense," Amelia thought. She was glad he was thoughtful and had thought all of that to prevent any issue from going on with tomorrow's case.

"Then that's alright. You can stay on your office. I'd be going to test in the lounge in my room. I would see you tomorrow morning then." Amelia said as she got up left.

The next day, Amelia hot up early and prepared for the court case. It was to start by ten o'clock that morning so she had ample time to do one or two things on the office before going to court.

With her clothes in the office, she took her bathe and quickly dressed up. She made a mental note to redecorate the lounge in her office to her style. She never thought of staying at the office overnight but it seems that it may become a frequent occurrence.

Ann was ready with a cup of coffee for her when she stepped out of the lounge. She took a sip of her coffee and relished the taste. It was just as she likes it and she praised Ann in her thoughts for giving her exactly what she needed.

She decided to go round the departments in the company before heading out to court. She did not want to rush out as that would give her enemies the picture that she was anxious and was not really sure eof her winning. She wanted to appear as confident as possible.

As she went round the departments she was accosted by the group of executives.

"How could you still remain calm at a time like this?" One of them fired.

"Don't you know that we can loosee everything we have worked hard for if the case does not go in our favor"

"Why did you sue them without consulting the executives first" they all ranted one after the other.

Amelia was tired of there ramblings and exhaled. She walked close Mr. Alex in a threatenly manner and narrowed her eyes at him. She could feel the fear emanating from him as she gave him her death aura look.

"Whyyyyy are yooooou loooooking at meee" he stammered as he moved back.

She then stopped and turned to face the other executives. "So I shouldn't fire a lawsuit for slander then? What should I have done?

"Pay them for the lost in sun design because I am afraid?"

"And how would that have made the company look. A pirate, a copyright fraud? Not authentic?. And do you honestly think that our share value would increase after that?"

"You said you have been in this business for long but you all don't use your brains well. Don't worry, I have no intention of loosing the case today. Just wait and watch". Soon enough, Ann came along with Vincent and they both headed to the court.

Amelia was not surprised to see the President of Vanity Fair House already seated in court by the time she arrived. She was sure that eh was already fidgeting as he never thought that she would fight back using a counter lawsuit. She was going to teach him a bitter lesson today.

In a short while, the court procession started and the case was read. Surprisingly, it was recorded by various news channels and it went to to the me at watched news of the day. Many people wanted to see how the case would end, whether it would favor her, the new female CEO or not.

The case started and the headlines of Vanity Fair House accusing Stone Jade Palace of stealing their work was presented before the judge.

Vanity fair house presented their evidence to support their claims. Their evidence was a contract signing by the former head of the design department which stated him collecting and copyrighting their design.

Fortunately Amelia was prepared for this and signaled to Vincent to takethe podium. With that She took over from the lawyer and able to explain how the design came about proving the innocence of Stone Jade Palace.

For compensation of the damage brought to them by the slander, she demanded the sum of sixty billion dollars which was approved in her favor by the judge.

As she stormed out of the courtroom, she was surrounded by various reporters. She smiled as this was the actual reason fro her suing Vanity Fair House. She wanted to use the publicity to restore the honor of her company.
