The vast battlefield ruins were filled with hundreds of people, restrained and nervous.
They occasionally glanced at Hanzo, who was enveloped in an eerie green glow.
The battle had ended over half an hour ago.
Normally, such a long wait would have eroded their confidence.
However, each time a gasp of surprise rippled through the crowd, it would send a shiver down their spines.
They were transfixed by the rapid healing of Hanzo, whose body had been riddled with holes by Kimimaro's attacks.
"Look, the last wound is healing!" someone exclaimed.
Everyone's eyes turned to the bloodied hole in Hanzo's chest.
The horrifying wound was rapidly being filled in.
The complex techniques, the rapid hand seals, and the incredible healing speed were breathtaking.
According to Kosuke, this medical ninjutsu surpassed even Tsunade, Konoha's top medical ninja.
"It's complete. Here are some blood-enriching pills," Kai said, releasing the seals and tossing a bottle.
Hanzo opened his eyes and caught it with a swift motion.
It was as if he were completely unharmed.
"Don't show off," Kai said, rolling his eyes. "Your wounds have just healed; they're still fragile. If you don't take care of yourself and they reopen, I won't save you a second time."
Hanzo paused, then said, "Thank you...Master..."
"But Master, you were truthful. I thought your medical ninjutsu couldn't compare to Tsunade's, but it seems you've surpassed her. I, Hanzo, lost this battle fairly."
"Just take the pills and stop talking," Kai interrupted, cutting off Hanzo's awkward flattery.
It felt strange to be flattered by a man in his fifties or sixties.
"Cough...thank you..." Hanzo said, embarrassed but grateful.
He had gone from being a powerful demigod to someone's subordinate, a difficult transition.
What if his new master was a pervert who demanded constant flattery? That would be worse than death.
"Alright, rest. I have things to do. I'll be back later," Kai said, patting Hanzo's shoulder. "Of course, if you want to add some spice to my boring life, I wouldn't mind."
With those words, Kai turned to leave.
But Hanzo stopped him.
"Master...if you're looking for Hiruko, this scroll contains his space-time coordinates. I was going to keep it for myself, but things have changed," Hanzo said, gesturing for a subordinate to bring a scroll.
Kai raised an eyebrow. "I already placed a space-time marker on him. Your scroll is useless."
"Master is truly wise..."
Hanzo was relieved that Kai accepted the scroll. It was a sign of loyalty. If Kai had refused, he would have lost face.
Kai rolled his eyes. "Hanzo, your flattery is terrible. You're praising the wrong part."
"Just act like you used to. If you keep flattering me, I might just kill you to shut you up."
Many people chuckled, especially the ANBU who had always followed Hanzo.
Seeing the once-impassive demigod reduced to this was amusing.
The tense atmosphere eased slightly.
Watching Kai leave, Hanzo sighed in relief.
He had expected to be humiliated, but other than being called "Master," nothing had changed.
Perhaps this wasn't so bad.
"Boss, why didn't you kill that Kosuke? And why are you chasing after him now?" Kimimaro asked, following Kai.
After witnessing Kai's godlike power, Kimimaro was completely devoted.
He was especially impressed by the Eight Gates Formation, and the battle against Madara's Susanoo.
Opening the Seven Gates had been a revelation.
Most importantly, Kai had mentioned it as a shortcut to becoming the strongest taijutsu user.
"Here, I've written down my experiences with the Eight Gates Formation, explanations of the techniques, and some Konoha-style kenjutsu and taijutsu. It should help you learn the Eight Gates faster," Kai said, handing Kimimaro a new scroll.
"Don't underestimate taijutsu. With your Kaguya clan bloodline, you'll suffer less damage than me when you open the Eight Gates. It'll also be easier for you to open the Eighth Gate. You'll have to protect me then."
Kimimaro stared at the scroll, stunned.
Most people would hoard a powerful forbidden technique, let alone share their insights.
Learning the same jutsu as others meant sharing weaknesses.
The Eight Gates was a technique that could defeat demigods and even gods.
Kai knew Kimimaro's Kaguya bloodline could maximize the Eight Gates, yet he was giving it to him, potentially creating a threat.
His own clan would never have done this.
Even his father had feared his power and imprisoned him, withholding combat skills.
Kimimaro had reached this point through his own talent.
"What's wrong? Are you planning to rebel? I'll be waiting for you to dance!" Kai said, patting Kimimaro's shoulder. His expression turned melancholic.
"But you have to hurry. I feel like I'll be leaving this world soon."
