Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 11 THE CALL BEFORE THE STORM

CHAPTER 11

In a familiar cafe bar, a certain young man with brown hair and a concerned expression was arranging the glasses.

"She isn't back yet. It has already been three days, no information, no phone calls," he thought to himself before he accidentally let go of one of the glasses. It fell to the ground, shattering on impact.

"That's coming out of your salary, boy!" Mr. Stowe shouted from his office.

"Sorry, sir," Jake apologized awkwardly.

Mr. Stowe then walked out of his office, and he immediately noticed one person was missing, the only Asian working in the cafe bar.

"Xia isn't around again, is she?" Mr. Stowe asked with a concerned expression.

Jake tried to cover for her, but he knew it was useless.

"If she doesn't show up tomorrow, I'm afraid I'll have to hire a new waiter," Mr. Stowe said as he walked around, inspecting the furniture and other things.

"Darn it," Jake cursed. "What is taking her so long? I'm honestly getting worried," he muttered as he packed up the broken glass on the floor. "I haven't felt like this for a long, long time. Should I call him again?" Jake said to himself, thinking of the previous call he had with someone.

THREE DAYS AGO

"Hello, Dad," Jake said, trying to hide the anger and nervousness in his voice.

"Oh, son, you've finally called. To what do I owe this pleasure?" his father, Brian Winfrey, said with sarcastic enthusiasm.

"Cut the crap, Dad. I know about the whole darn operation going on with the elites. What I don't know is why you're involved," Jake said, losing his patience.

"Oh, it seems you've been doing a lot of research, and I was told the operation is highly secretive. You want to know why I'm involved, but I doubt you even know the true purpose of the operation, do you?" Brian asked darkly.

There was silence from Jake's end.

"I thought as much," Brian said with loud laughter.

"You've got no idea just how much power could be gained from this. We would be unstoppable. Even the government and the military would bow to us," Brian said.

With each word that came out of his father's mouth, Jake's heart pounded harder.

"What did you do, Father? WHAT DID YOU DO?!!" Jake shouted angrily.

"Oh, you'll see, boy. I'll become a god."

Those were the last words Brian said before the call disconnected.

"Hello? Hello?" Jake called, but there was no response. He then smashed the already pitiful phone.

"I've got to save Xia, but how?"
