Chapter 8 - 8

"I didn't expect that in this world, it's actually pretty easy to make money. I just earned 500 so effortlessly, haha."

Avery looked at the five 100-dollar bills in her hand, and her mood instantly brightened. Now she had money for transportation and food.

After waiting for a short while, a car drove out from inside.

Avery immediately stood at the road and blocked the car, hoping she could catch a free ride.

"What are you doing with our car?"

The driver stuck his head out and saw it was just a young girl, so he asked.

"I want to go into the city. Can you give me a ride? I've been waiting here for a long time and haven't seen a single car. Please, be kind!"

Avery pleaded pitifully with her hands clasped together.

"We don't know you. You'd better wait for another car."

The driver finished speaking, rolled up the window, and drove off.

"Stingy jerk. Let's see if I don't teach you a little lesson."

Since the car had already started moving, Avery stepped aside and mumbled quietly.

She flicked her finger lightly at their rear tire, and a thin ice needle pierced into it.

After the car had driven a few hundred meters, the rear tire started losing all its air.

The ice needle melted slowly, so the tire wouldn't blow out — it would just deflate gradually.

The driver got out and checked. When he saw water on the tire, he wiped it with his hand and sniffed it but didn't smell anything.

"Boss, the rear tire is leaking. I checked it thoroughly before we left. And there's no rain today, the road is dry, but there's water on the tire. This is so strange!"

He looked at it repeatedly, completely puzzled.

"I'm on a tight schedule. Hurry and have someone from home bring another car. If I miss this meeting, I'll skin you."

The person in the back seat finally spoke, clearly annoyed. What kind of useless people were they raising? Couldn't even handle such a small thing.

Avery soon saw another car coming out and tried to stop it again.

This time, the car didn't even slow down and just drove past.

"Young lady, get in the car. I'll take you to the city. Don't keep trying to stop cars here — or we'll end up punished because of you."

The security team leader couldn't bear to watch anymore and drove out in his own car.

"You're the best! When I've got money, I'll treat you to a drink."

Seeing it was the security leader, Avery quickly opened the door and got in.

She didn't care who was driving or what kind of car it was — as long as it took her into the city.

"No need for drinks. You're a young girl; just take good care of yourself."

The security leader wanted to remind her to behave and stay safe.

"Okay. Thank you, uncle!"

Avery sincerely thanked him for being such a kind person.

They didn't talk again during the ride. The security leader had found out her connection to the Lu family and didn't want to say much more.

"Young lady, where should I drop you off?"

They soon reached the city, and he didn't know her destination.

"Just somewhere busy is fine."

A crowded street was better for her to sell some things. A few hundred dollars wasn't enough, and she planned to go to school tomorrow.

"Alright."

A few minutes later, the car stopped at the side of a bustling street.

"Thank you, Uncle. I hope you stay healthy and happy!"

After getting out of the car, Avery happily said some kind words.

"Mm, I wish you peace and safety too."

The security team leader smiled at her, then drove away. There wasn't much else they could do to help.

As Avery walked, she looked around. Tall skyscrapers stood everywhere.

Glass curtain walls sparkled under the sunlight, reflecting colorful lights.

The streets and alleys were full of people, busy traffic, and all kinds of sounds mixing into a city symphony.

Shops were filled with dazzling products that caught people's eyes. Shoppers came and went non-stop.

Restaurants gave off delicious smells, and the variety of food made people hungry just walking by.

"This is how life should be. This world is amazing!"

Avery looked around for a while, then suddenly opened her arms, lifted her head, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath.

From now on, she was going to live freely in this world.

No more zombies, no more mutated animals — none of those things would exist in her world anymore.

Only endless bad guys to fight and countless clowns to watch.

Finally, she wouldn't be alone anymore. This world was truly wonderful.

Avery suddenly opened her eyes and lowered her arms, standing quietly by herself.

"With a world this great, how can I stay alone?

I could find a really handsome man, then have a child, and I wouldn't be alone anymore!

Oh no, why am I so silly? How could I just now think of something this amazing?"

Thinking about this beautiful idea, Avery suddenly laughed again.

"No, wait. I need to make money first. Right now, I have no car, no house, no savings. Being a 'three-nothing' product isn't good."

Avery immediately walked forward. She had just seen a gold shop not far ahead.

She planned to sell a little gold. It would bring quick money. But after just a few steps, she felt someone following her.

"Looks like my alertness has dropped. Sigh, this comfortable life makes people careless.

If this were still the apocalypse, I'd get eaten by a mutated animal acting like this. That's no good. I really don't want to die now."

Avery didn't go to the gold shop anymore. Instead, she went into a small noodle shop. Her stomach felt hungry again, so she decided to eat first.

"Boss, that noodle shop has a lot of people. Should we still go in?"

The two men following her hesitated when they saw her enter the noodle shop.

They were worried the place was too small, and if they went in, it would be too easy to get noticed.

"Let's just go in and eat too. If he keeps walking after this, we won't even have time to eat."

The man in the lead thought for a moment and decided to follow her in and eat something.

When the two of them came in, Avery carefully looked at them but didn't say anything.

After she finished eating, she began walking along the street.

Even though the world she came from was more developed than this one, it had been a long time since then.

So seeing the streets now still made her interested in walking around.

Two hours later, Avery saw a public restroom in the distance. After walking for so long, it was time to shake off those two sticky followers.

She needed to get some money, buy some clothes too. Otherwise, she wouldn't have anything to wear tomorrow.

Before going in, she broke the camera above the restroom.

Her image couldn't be left in there. She didn't want to attract trouble for herself later.
