Chapter 1 - Awakening

Argh....argh.....

The sound of crows intensive cawing could be heard in the sky. And on the ground, many people were in front of a giant city gate.

The intensive cawing did not seem to bothered them at all.

From time to time, the people looked towards the foggy edge veil. They seemed seemed be waiting for something or someone.

With quiet silence, they all stood there waiting. But the crows continued to caw.

From seconds to minutes, from minutes to hours. The early morning turned into a hot noon.

Then, finally when the people started to get anxious, something from inside the fog emerged.

Seeing the thing emerged, many people were on guard.

One by one, more emerged from the fog.

Seeing that, all the people waiting in front of the giant gate, held their breathing in nervous.

The things that emerged from the fog started getting closer towards the gate.

When they reached about 800 meters away from the gate, the people finally got a clear looks of the things.

They were humans with armors. Seeing that, all the people let down their guards and started cheering out loud.

In the busy crowd, a young man who looked to be about 15 or 16 years old was also present. An his name is John Walt.

Instead of cheering like the rest of the crowd, he firmly looked at the approaching humans.

His eyes showed a strong desire, when he looked at the humans on armors.

It was because those people were different from the rest of people in front of the giant gate. They are the walkers. Or more precisely, the realm walkers.

The reason why they are called the realm walkers was because the city John Walt was currently living is surrounded by unknown fog from all directions.

No one can leave the city and go beyond the fog. And if they try to leave and explore the fog, they will be kill the moment they come in contact with the fog.

But there are exceptions, some special people can leave the city and go beyond the fog. They are the walkers.

Not all people can be walkers because for one to be a walker he/she must be awaken.

And for someone to be awaken, they must undergo a test. But no one know what the test is exactly. It can be a dream or a fight or just some normal stuff. So, in short, it is unpredictable for everyone.

Thinking of all those things, John looked at the walkers coming back from their journey beyond the fog.

When they arrived in front of the crowd, instead of happiness or delight, they showed depressing looks on their faces. That was because, before they left for the journey, there were 7 of them. But now, when they came back, there were only 4 of them.

Seeing the expression of the walkers, all the people showed a dejected look.

The leader among the walkers stepped up and said in a loud and calm voice. "People of Nether Realm, we are sorry to announce that, we have not yet found any site of other realm. And for this time, we will announce the details tomorrow. Please excuse us."

With that speech, all four of them left the game and went inside.

One by one, all the people left the place slowly.

Only John was remained there standing still. His eyes looked at the dejected back of the people. His eyes showed even more firm desire. Then he turned and looked towards the dangerous yet the only way.

"Even if I can not awaken this time, I will still charge at you." He murmured softly.

Only people below 16 years of age have the chance to get awaken. But only one in hundreds will be lucky enough for that.

Not only that, even if you get the chance, it was not a guarantee ticket to be walker.

"Well, let's wait for sometime." He also slowly entered the gate.

The moment he entered inside the gate, rows of houses appeared in front of his eyes. The houses were in early medieval european style. Even though it was not magnificent, it was still great.

But none of these things were in John's mind. His mind was full of thoughts about his dim future.

He continued walking down the street and as he did that, he walked passed many pedestrians. None of them bothered with him and some even showed displeased expression when they saw him.

With an unbothered face, John walked into an alley. And he continued navigating from left to right. Then, finally, he arrived in front of a dilapidated hut made of straws.

That was his current resting place.

When he turned 15 years old, he was kicked out from the orphan home.

As an orphan with no place, he roamed from place to place in the city.

And it's been almost 6 months, since he left the orphan.

With a deep sigh, he walked inside the hut.

Just from a casual glance, one can see the place inside was not as expected. One will assume the inside of the hut to be dirty, but it was the complete opposite.

With a simple sleeping pat and single table, the place was neat.

John sat down on the sleeping pat and from the corner he pulled out a dried cake.

As he ate the cake, he murmured to himself. "I should go out to look for dinner, soon."

As he sat there eating and thinking about his current situation, he suddenly felt sleepy.

The feeling got stronger as time went on.

John himself did not realize it, but his eyes were starting to close slowly. And as he continued to murmured to himself, he slowly fell on his sleeping pat with his eyes closed.

When he regained his consciousness, he found himself in a very dark place with no light within his sight.

Confused, he shook his head to clear his mind but it was of no use.

Suddenly, a voiced appeared on his mind and a screen showed up in front of his face.
