Chapter 20 - Ep. 6 — Lunar Labs, I

"Are you alright!" Yuri exclaimed as he rushed over.

"Arg-" The pain was slowly subsiding.

"Yeah I think so… I don't know what happened."

What was that? It was as if memories were forcibly shoved into my head… were those Lydia's memories?

"Sorry about that… what was I saying?" It doesn't matter right now, I'll need more memories for those to make any sense anyway.

Yuri hesitantly reminded me that I was talking about file names. I could tell that he was still worried about me.

"Don't worry about me so much, I'll be fine!" I reassured him with a faint smile.

He sat back down and shifted his eyes away from me. "Okay…"

"Now we should get some rest before tomorrow."

"Oh yeah! Do you still have the walkie talkie thing?"

"The what?" He looked at me in confusion.

"You know, the thing you used to talk into my ear?" I tapped my ear.

"Oh, that." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a mobile looking device. It looked pretty regular, beside the built in dark orange outline and the logo I'd never seen before with the same colour. It was a crescent moon, with the letters LT. I also noticed that the back of the phone looked extremely scratched up…

"Is… that a phone?"

"I mean sort of… I had to take most of the junk out of it that could track me so I can't call anyone without my app." He flipped the phone around a couple times as he talked about it.

"Whoa! You made an app?!" Now that I think about it, he did have some weird code stuff up on his computer.

"Yeah, but it wasn't too hard."

"Do you have one?"

"Of course I do-"

Wait… do I?

"Where did you put my wallet!?" His question reminded me that I'd need my key card to get into Lunar Labs.

"Oh I set it on that counter thing when you were changing." He pointed over at the nightstand next to my bed.

I rushed over and looked through it… As I saw the key card, I let out a sigh of relief. I was about to go back to the table, but the drawer caught my attention. I hadn't looked at what was inside yet.

Now that I'm over here though, I might as well check if there's anything useful. As I opened the drawer, I found a mobile device that looked almost the same as Yuri's, but with a couple slight differences. For one, it wasn't nearly a scratched up, though, it did have two big scratches on the back. Another difference was that the colour was dark blue instead of orange. I'm also pretty sure it's smaller than his phone.

I dug through some random trinkets and found a passport with the title "Lunar International," and below it my full name, Lydia Hunter. What was even weirder, was that it was completely digital. I believe the text was a small solar panel, which would provide power to it. I found the power button and turned it on. A couple countries showed up and were digitally stamped on, indicating that Lydia had been there. In order, there were countries such as Egypt, Japan, Joseon, Brazil, Belgium, Rusland, and multiple stamps of Columbia, which is weird, as I live here?

I turned around to ask Yuri a question, but noticed that he had fallen asleep, with his head laying on the table. I got up and grabbed one of the blankets on my bed and laid it over Yuri as he slept. I'm not too surprised that he fell asleep so fast, but I did want to ask him a question…

It was about the title. I walked back over to my bed and sat on the edge while looking at the passport.

"Lunar International." I said out loud.

I couldn't help but find it weird how much they controlled. I grabbed the phone and looked at the back.

"LT" I wouldn't be surprised if the L stood for Lunar.

Yuri said he hacked his phone, which would make more sense if Lunar Labs created it, especially if he broke out of their facility. They would probably try to track him down with it…

If Lydia worked at Lunar Labs, this phone probably has some weird trackers on it as well…

I let out a sigh, "Good thing I didn't bring this with me earlier… they would have found Yuri's home if I did." I mean, it would have been his fault for kidnapping me, but now that I know why he did, I'd feel really bad even if it wasn't my fault.

I placed the passport back in the drawer and powered on the phone. There's probably a lot of new stuff I'll need to learn with this phone, but does it have a basic timer?

I was lucky that the phone opened with my fingerprint, as I don't know the password. It looked pretty much the same as a normal phone with multiple apps to choose from, including messages, calling, time, mail, and so on.

One theme I noticed was that all the apps had a similar colour scheme… and were definitely run by Lunar, as their loading screen popped up whenever loading an app, "Lunar Technologies." Man, they are really self absorbed… not even the phone companies in my world had their name and logo plastered over everything they made.

I opened the time app and figured out how to set up an alarm for 7:00, as I believe Yuri said they open at 9:00…

I set the phone on the nightstand and laid down. Sigh, my life has changed so much in such a short amount of time… will I ever get used to this? As I thought, I slowly drifted off into a deep sleep.

I started dreaming… I was at home, and while everything looked a bit fuzzy, I could tell I sitting at the dinner table with my mom, dad, and brother. My brother was laughing at something my mom said, and my dad was smiling. This was before everything started falling apart. I think this was right when my dad broke the news to us… he had cancer, and he'd most likely need to stay in a hospital soon. We could have never guessed how bad it would get for him… for all of us.

I looked up at everyone, I knew it was a dream, but I wanted to savor every last second before I woke up… who knows if I'll ever see them again, even in a dream. My dad looked over at me, and said, "Honey, are you okay?" I looked over at him and before I could respond, tears started rolling down my face.

I quickly tried to wipe them off, but I couldn't stop. My mom got up and rushed over to hug me.

"What's wrong-" I couldn't hear her finish the sentence…

I froze. The dream stared swirling around me as I realized I had forgotten.

What was my name?
