Chapter 17 - Ch:17 The Grind

They continued their journey towards the north and Akira prevented Sokkas bullshit that they should walk so it would be harder to be found by the fire nation.

Because of that they came to the north more quickly and without any problems.

Thanks to arriving earlier because of avoiding all the drama with Jet they even came before the two fighting tribes saving them the trouble to look for a guide to cross the great divide.

They just flew across it on the back of Appa while admiring the beautiful landscape.

Their proviants and food unfortunateley didn't last as long and they had to look for food.

Akira generously gave them two gold coins to buy their food without any trouble.

He wanted to get to the northpole as fast as possible to learn real waterbending.

"Hey where did you get that money?" Katara asked.

"My father Iroh, the one who traveled with Zuko gave it to me" Akira lied "Zuko may be crazy but my father is a good guy"

"Well that's good no? Now we don't need to worry about food for a while. Those gold coins will last us for a while" Sokka said.

Akira nodded and went back to his waterbening practice.

He didn't slack off in his waterbening training. He knew that he isn't as talented in waterbending than Katara or Aang and he trained in every free second he got even cutting on his sleep to meditate.

In every break they had he practiced waterbending and was even able to master the advanced forms from the scroll finally catching up to Aang and Katara.

If he would even closely be as powerful than Katara in waterbending then he really felt sorry for his enemies.

With masterful waterbending he could escape any prision in this world together with his fire bending he would become an instoppable force on the battlefield.

"Aang, the sky doesn't look good let's wait until it is better weather" Akira said pointing at the dark clouds on the horizon.

"Yeah, let's seach a save shelter. It looks like a big storm is comming" Katara said and because they didn't lack money for now Sokka wasn't forced to work for the fisherman like in the series.

For Akira the storm was a blessing. He now had an abudance of time to practice waterbending while Katara and Aang where stuck in their emotional whining he meditated in the rain, soaked to the bone.

He wasn't worried that he will get sick, thanks to his monstous chi pool his body healed itself of any sickness or small cuts.

"Akira, you really shouldn't sit in the rain like this, you'll catch a cold" Katara said.

"Don't worry Katara I am just practicing. I won't get sick" Akira just said and focused on his exercise after Katara left.

The falling raindrops were exxelent to practice his control for water as he couldn't focus on a single body of water but had to feel the different waterdrops and stop them in mid air like Katara did when she wanted to kill the solider that killed her mother.

It was really hard, he could mabye stop a few waterdrops but the moment he wanted to stop more he would lose control and they would continue to fall.

But he noticed improvements.

With every hour his control became better and he was able to stop a decent amount of waterdrops now, his connection to water deepening with every waterdrop he stopped from descending.

Seeing Akira advancing so quickly in waterbending Katara clenched her fists and also began to practice albeit in the dry cave and not in the middle of the rain.

To prevent himself from freezing to death he used his firebending from time to time to heat his body up but this also interrupted his training and set him back each time he did that so he reduced it to a bare minimum only using it when his fingers are starting to get numb.

After a few more hours he became tired and he vaporized all the water on his body making them dry instantly with his firebending.

After this he went to Appa and also dried him of all the water on him and used his fluffy fur as sleeping ground.

After they woke up the storm had passed and it stopped raining even through the sky still looked dark.

They continued their Journey but it seems that Sokka still catched a cold because of the storm and they decided to take a break in an old abandoned ruin.

Aang went off in search after medicine for Sokka and Katara and Akira stayed behind to nurse Sokka.

So Akira continued with his waterbending practice and then nursing Sokka and Katara who had now also grown sick now.

He gave them as muchfood and water out of his inventora as they wanted and also gave them medical tea to lower the fever.

"Where is Aang, what is taking him so long?" Katara asked and blushed as Akira felt her temperature.

"Don't worry I'm sure he is fine" Akira said and let her rest.

"Who is this Aang you are talking about?" Sokka asked and Akira just sighed. He should have gone with Aang and beaten up a few fire soliders.

It was incredibly boring, just looking after Sokka and Katara and practicing waterbending.

But on the bright side his waterbending was progressing smoothly and he could now control water more precisely.

Qnyways, he knew that Aang was in trouble propably being held captive by admiral Zhao but he should hurry up.

On the other hand, what if a butterfly effect caused Aang to be in real danger.

Just as he wanted to get up to look for Aang he came back with a bunch of frozen frogs.

"Where were you?" Akira asked.

"Oh I was captured by Zhao after I found the medicine so I had to escape first and then collect the medicine again" Aang said and gave Sokka and Katara each a frog to suck on "they just need to suck on them and they'll get better".

"I am really glad that I'm not sick" Akira said looking at the frozen frogs in disgust.

"Mhmmm they taste really good" Sokka said munching on his frozen frog and Akira just rolled his eyes.

Even if he is smart sometimes when it counts he really is an idiot all the other time.

They then continued their journey after Katara and Sokka had recovered.

After weeks of travel they then camped on a sea with Sokka trying to catch a fish in the small lake but it just served for their amusement.
