Marie's POV
"You're here," his unwelcoming tone greeted me as soon as I walked into the dining room.
I nodded as an answer to his question, my body stiffening in fear. "I'm sorry if I wasted time; I was getting ready."
Mancini scoffed. "Whatever…" he remarked harshly, taking his gaze to his plate, which already had food in it.
I moved towards the table to take a seat, but I guess that was a wrong move on my end because his demeanor changed.
"Tsk, tsk…" He clicked his tongue even when his eyes weren't on me. However, his simple gesture caused my heart to rummage in my chest.
"Oh my good lord, please…" I pleaded with the universe as sweat formed on my forehead. I didn't even know how else to make it make sense. I shouldn't have sat down without him permitting me.
Yes, I was like his wired puppet who was only allowed to do exactly as I was told, or I would face the consequences of my actions.
