Juno's living room was still messy with leftover birthday balloons, plastic cups, and colorful ribbons that had started to droop. Max sat cross-legged on the floor, her eyeliner smudged from way too much laughing and way too much sparkling drink. Juno sat beside me, arms crossed, staring at me like I'd just confessed I was an alien.
"So he knows?!" Max practically screamed.
I nodded slowly. "Yep."
"And you tried to kill him?!" Juno added at the same volume.
I looked at them one by one. "…Yep."
Max dropped onto the couch like she'd been shot. "You're insane, Val."
Juno leaned her elbow on her knee, eyes narrowing in suspicion. "I left you alone for five hours and you almost killed the most famous CEO in the city?"
"Would've succeeded if he didn't… start talking first," I muttered.
They both stared at me in disbelief.
"You know, Val… when you said you were going to kill him, I didn't think you meant it literally," Max said.
