I stared at the screen for three seconds. Four. Five.
Then… I turned it off.
Not because I was avoiding him, I just… didn't know what to reply.
Or maybe I didn't want to think yet about why he suddenly called and texted this late at night.
Sebastian noticed, but he didn't comment. He only crossed his arms, waiting for me to refocus.
I placed my phone on the table and took a breath.
"Seb…" I lifted my head to him. "I just remembered, can I ask you something?"
Sebastian raised a brow. "Shoot."
"How did you guys know that my real name is Valerie and not Emily?" I asked quietly, but my eyes locked onto his.
That very second, his expression changed.
Sebastian rarely ever looked flustered. But right now?
He looked like a pink cat just pointed a knife at him. Shocked. Confused. Awkward.
"Oh… that…" he rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah that… just research."
I narrowed my eyes.
"Research?"
