Chapter 6 - Glowing orbs

I stared at the two glowing orbs until it moved–yes moved. It seemed to close the distance between us until it was right in front of me.

The light coming in from the slightly open door allowed me to see what it actually was.

It was some type of animal like creature with white and blue durand glowing orbs. It purred which made it's fur to vibrate with a soft glow that went from its neck to its tail.

On it's head, the blue fur was displayed in an intricate pattern that resembled a crown. As it moved, its paws left footprints that glowed in the dark, emitting a light blue color that slowly dimmed afterwards.

It walked with the grace of a painter and the instincts of a wolf. It moved towards me slowly yet purposely.

It bugged my leg, letting out a whine, and moved in the direction of the door as though wanting me to follow it; so i did just that. I walked behind it but stopped once we reached the door.

The animal like creature used its head to fully open the door and walked out but came back in when it noticed i was not following behind it anymore.

It tilted its head to the side as though in question, staring at me curiously.

"I can't come with you," i whispered so only it can hear me "they'll see me."

It let out a loud whine which echoed around the room.

"Shush" i dropped to my knees and brought my hands up trying to shush the animal like creature. Up close, its fur was even more beautiful. It looked very soft to touch.

I brought my hand slowly towards it head, pausing when its eyes locked uneasily on it.

"I'm not going to hurt you" I said softly trying my best not to scare it.

It sniffed my hand for a few seconds before rubbing it's head against my open palm letting out a soft purr.

"What are you?" I let out, asking no one in particular, completely fascinated by this peculiar creature.

I stroked it's fur running my fingers gently thought its softness.

I was so lost in the moment and the feel of the fur under my hand that I didn't hear the footsteps coming towards the room until it was too late.

Na shadow covered us as a figure stood by the door obstructing the light.

The hand I was using to pet the animal like creature froze. Completely stunned by the unexpected presence, I couldn't move a single muscle.

"What is going on here?" The figure turned out to be a guard.

"I-i can e-explai—"

"Kailan, what is it?" The guard questioned cutting me off before I could finish my sentence. He moved towards animal like creature who was now staring at the guard.

The guard knelt down so he could be on the same level with the animal like creature, or Kailan, as he just called it but seemed to not see me.

"Kailan, are you looking for her highness?" The guard moved to pay the Kailan on the head but Kailan let out a low growl. I jolted and pulled my hand away from kailan's fur as though burnt yet the guard made no indication that he was in any way conscious of my presence.

"E-excuse me?" I squeaked out still not believing the guard was just ignoring me. But it was either the guard really didn't hear me or he was just too good at pretending because he didn't spare even a single glance my way.

I tentatively brought my right hand to the guard's face, waving it in a bid to catch his attention even if it was at the risk of me being seen. But the guard did not respond, hissole focus remained on Kailan.

"He can't see me" I mumbled under my breath disbelievingly. "He can't see me" I let out louder this time, a bright smile lighting up my face.

I turn to the guard and Kailan with the smile still on my face. kailan gazed at me in wonder, his bright eyes showing flecks of gold I didn't notice before in them.

"Come on, let me take you to her highness x the guard stood up and dusted his attire before leading Kailan towards the door while I trailed behind them.

We walked down the hall to where the other guard was still standing then halted. The two guards exchanged a few words before the opened the door I was planning to go through earlier and both Kailan and I walked in.

But if I said I was prepared for what I would find behind the door then that would be a lie.

For what lay behind the door was a secret known to few and more than I was expecting.
