Chapter 14 - 14. Ready to go to sea

"Jessica, are you not going to school recently?"

Hearing this, Jessica unconsciously puffed out her chest and said with a proud expression:

"I have already received my university acceptance letter, so it doesn't matter whether I go to school now or not."

Only then did Li Wei remember that high schools in Eagle Country were very different from high schools in his home country.

High school in his home country was three years, while high school in Eagle Country was four years.

Grades 10 to 12 were mainly used to accumulate credits, while the final year focused on applying to universities and engaging in free activities.

Seeing that the girl had already been accepted, Li Wei couldn't help but ask curiously:

"Jessica, which school were you accepted into?"

Hearing Li Wei's question, the girl's originally proud little expression disappeared, and she became shy and hesitant. After a while, she replied weakly:

"I received an acceptance letter from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. As for the applications to other universities, I haven't received any replies yet."

"University of Fairbanks! It's a very good school."

The University of Alaska is the best university in the state, and its flagship campus is the University of Fairbanks. The fact that Jessica was accepted into the University of Fairbanks indicates that her grades were likely good.

As for why Jessica was hesitant just now, Li Wei could roughly guess without even thinking.

The hierarchy of contempt among universities isn't unique to his home country; it's the same in Eagle Country. Universities like Harvard/Yale/Stanford look down on MIT, MIT looks down on Cornell, Cornell looks down on state flagships, and so on.

He wasn't just humoring her. Being accepted into the University of Fairbanks meant Jessica was already ahead of most of her peers in Point.

Many of the original owner's high school classmates didn't even go to college, and those like him who were accepted into the University of Southern California were extremely rare.

As for the statement "Students in Eagle Country can all go to university," which was spread online in his previous life, it's both true and not true.

It's true in that if you want to go to university, there are indeed universities you can attend.

It's not true in that the difference between universities can be said to be like heaven and earth.

Besides that, there's another crucial factor.

That is money.

As everyone knows, university tuition in Eagle Country is quite high. Most families simply cannot afford university tuition; if you want to attend, you can only take out student loans.

Obama didn't finish paying off his student loans until he was 43, just four years before he became president.

Of course, geniuses and the wealthy are exceptions.

Receiving Li Wei's affirmation, Jessica said in surprise:

"Li Wei, you really think so!"

"Of course, why would I lie to you?"

Hearing the definite reply again, a bright smile bloomed on Jessica's face.

She immediately pulled Wangcai, who was digging, into her arms.

Perhaps feeling suffocated, Wangcai flailed his little legs, trying to break free.

Seeing this, Jessica quickly let go of Wangcai.

She said with a face full of apology:

"Wangcai, I'm sorry, are you okay?"

Seeing the girl's appearance at this moment, there was none of her previous heroic spirit; she was completely like the girl next door.

"Li Wei, what are you laughing at?"

"I just thought of something happy!"

"What happy thing?"

"I... I plan to find some time to go out to sea for fun."

Li Wei quickly found an excuse.

Although he said it to appease Jessica, he did indeed plan to go out to sea.

It had been a few days since he transmigrated. Apart from going to the beach once to catch seafood, he hadn't truly been out to sea yet.

The Sea Monster had been overhauled by Buck and the others and was now completely refurbished.

He planned to find some time to go out to sea before the inheritance matters were settled. If there were any problems, they could be discovered and resolved early.

Hearing that Li Wei was preparing to go out to sea, Jessica immediately said she wanted to go too.

"No problem, but I need to ask Buck about the condition of the Sea Monster first."

"Then ask quickly."

At Jessica's urging, Li Wei took out his phone and dialed Buck's number.

The call was connected shortly.

"Hello, Buck."

"Hello, Boss, is there something you need?"

Buck's voice came from the receiver.

"Buck, didn't I say that we should still call each other by our names in private?"

"Li Wei, sorry, I've gotten used to calling you that the past couple of days."

"..."

The two chatted casually for a couple of sentences, and then Li Wei got straight to the point.

"Can the Sea Monster go out to sea now?"

Buck instantly guessed Li Wei's thoughts and said:

"We've already inspected everything that needed inspecting on the Sea Monster. There's absolutely no problem with going out to sea."

"I plan to do a trial run before the inheritance tax is settled to see if the Sea Monster has any other issues. If there are, we can discover them and resolve them in advance."

"No problem, when should we set off?"

"For a trial run, the sooner the better, so we'll have more ample time."

Li Wei pondered for a moment and continued:

"Alright, we'll set off tomorrow morning. We can just take a turn around Whale Horn Bay."

"OK, I'll inform Jack and the others right away."

Hanging up the phone, Li Wei put his phone in his pocket.

Jessica had been listening the entire time. Knowing that they would go out to sea tomorrow morning, she said excitedly:

"Li Wei, we're going out to sea tomorrow morning, should we prepare some food?"

"We do need to prepare some food."

Hearing this, Li Wei couldn't help but think of some unpleasant memories.

The original owner used to go fishing at sea often. What left the deepest impression was neither the high-intensity work nor the bad weather, but the food on the boat.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it 'dark cuisine'.

Having made up their minds, the F150 carried the two people and one dog quickly towards Point.

...

The next day, before dawn, Li Wei arrived at the dock.

He had expected to be the first one there, but when he arrived on the Sea Monster, he found that Buck and the others had all arrived and were conducting the final checks before setting off.

Li Wei went up and greeted Jack and Jim. Just as he was about to go to the bridge, he saw Jessica organizing supplies.

He walked over to Jessica and said:

"Jessica, could I trouble you to keep an eye on Wangcai for me?"

"No problem, leave it to me."

Jessica naturally wouldn't refuse. She agreed without even thinking.

Li Wei handed Wangcai to Jessica and then walked into the bridge.

At this time, all the instruments in the bridge were turned on, and Buck was carefully checking the various data on the instruments.

Li Wei walked forward and asked:

"Buck, how is the Sea Monster?"

"Boss, everything is normal. We can set off anytime."

Li Wei was still somewhat excited in his heart, even though this was just a trial run.

"Then let's set off now."

Buck nodded when he heard this and picked up the walkie-talkie to speak.

"Jack, Jim, untie the ropes. We're ready to go."

Jack and Jim on the deck heard the broadcast and quickly ran to the side of the boat to untie the ropes.

Freed from the ropes, the Sea Monster, like an awakened beast, slowly moved away from the berth propelled by its engines.

Adjusting its direction, it quickly sailed south.

Standing in the bridge, Li Wei watched the "Sea Monster" gradually move away from the dock, feeling a sense of unreality.

Just a few days ago, he was slacking off in the duty room. A few days later, he transmigrated to Eagle Country and was now even a prospective Captain. It truly was a case of the world being unpredictable.

Jessica then walked into the bridge holding Wangcai, saying with a somewhat excited tone:

"Li Wei, what's our plan for today?"

"We'll first go refuel, then go fishing in Whale Horn Bay. If time permits, we can also go to Lulu Island to watch Orcas hunt seals."
