Chapter 13 - 13. Strategic Investments

Back at the North Star Farm, Li Wei first found cardboard boxes and old clothes to make a simple dog bed, then prepared warm goat milk for Wangcai.

Little Wangcai circled the simple dog bed a few times before starting to lap up the goat milk in the food bowl.

After seeing Wangcai start drinking the milk, Li Wei returned to the pickup truck and moved everything he bought in Anchorage back to his room. He locked the gun in the safe.

When he returned to the living room again, he saw that the goat milk in the food bowl had been completely drunk by Wangcai.

At this moment, Wangcai was sleeping in the dog bed, his pink little tongue occasionally sticking out for a lick, looking very cute.

Seeing this, Li Wei couldn't help but pet Wangcai's head, feeling an indescribable emotion in his heart.

Returning to the bedroom and finishing his wash-up, it was already early morning.

Lying on the bed, Li Wei had no sleepiness at all, his thoughts involuntarily drifting to the events of the past two days.

Thinking of something, he picked up his laptop and started searching for recent news.

The Mars rover continued to land on Mars, Eagle Country continued to strike military facilities, a certain congressman was caught in a prostitution scandal, a certain company's train continued to derail...

After looking through them, only a few news items left an impression; most of the others he had never even heard of.

As for opportunities to make money, he found none.

Li Wei also realized a problem at this time: although he had memories in his mind spanning over 20 years beyond the present, these memories were fragmented, merely a drop in the ocean compared to the real world.

For example, regarding the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis, Li Wei only knew it was caused by Eagle Country's lenient housing policies, leading to an overheated housing market. Banks created financial products like subprime mortgage bonds to transfer risk, ultimately triggering a systemic financial crisis. However, he knew nothing about the specific details that occurred, which was true for most people.

This crisis triggered by Eagle Country eventually evolved into a global financial storm, leading to the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the division of a large amount of quality assets by various parties.

This was also the transmigrator's weakness: knowing what happened but not why.

Seeing there was no interesting news, Li Wei closed all the news pages and then opened a financial website.

As the webpage loaded successfully, he saw many companies he was familiar with from his previous life.

For example: Microsoft, Google, Visa, Oracle...

What Li Wei least expected was to see news about Alibaba on the webpage:

Alibaba receives 87 million strategic investment...

After reading this news, Li Wei was filled with emotion.

Alibaba was indeed Alibaba. While he was still feeling smug about an inheritance of a few million, they had already received a strategic investment of over eighty million us dollars.

He had ultimately brought shame upon the army of transmigrators!

Li Wei silently closed the Alibaba news page and began searching for the well-known large companies from his previous life.

When he saw Microsoft's market value of 280 billion, his heart was calm.

Buying Microsoft stock now had missed the best opportunity; future returns wouldn't be too high. However, it could be a backup option, and if he had spare money, he could buy some.

When he saw that Apple Company had a market value of only 9.7 billion, he almost jumped off the bed.

In his memory, Apple's market value exceeded 3.5 trillion us dollars, firmly holding the top position in the Eagle Country stock market. If he bought some Apple stock at this time, he wouldn't have to do anything in the future, just lie at home and enjoy life.

No wonder so many people in his previous life were keen on stock trading; it turned out that buying a good stock could truly provide for a lifetime.

As for my great "A-shares," forget about it.

Wouldn't it be better to use that money to eat a few more servings of Braised Chicken with Mushrooms?

As he continued to search, Li Wei really did find a few good startup companies.

The one with the most investment value was Xiao Mazi.

Xiao Mazi's website just launched in February this year, providing "social" services to Harvard students.

If he could get some initial shares now, just these initial shares would be enough to make him financially free.

Thinking of his current situation, Li Wei could only suppress the thoughts in his mind.

Whether buying Apple stock or investing in Xiao Mazi, it required us dollars, a large amount of us dollars. He only had a total of a little over a hundred thousand us dollars on him; it was barely enough to buy some Apple stock, let alone invest in Xiao Mazi.

Therefore, the most important thing for him now was to make money.

After making up his mind, Li Wei closed his laptop directly and soon fell into a deep sleep after lying down on the bed.

...

The next day, sunlight shone on Li Wei's face.

He sat up with a sudden movement, looked at the time on the alarm clock, and it was already 8:30 in the morning.

Remembering the time he agreed upon with Jack last night, he quickly jumped out of bed to wash up and get dressed.

When Li Wei came to the living room, he heard a series of "woof woof" sounds.

Only then did he remember that there was an extra member in the house.

Walking to the side of the simple dog bed, he saw Wangcai trying to escape, but unfortunately, his legs were too short to climb out.

He was so anxious that he kept whimpering.

Seeing this, Li Wei directly picked Wangcai up from inside.

Wangcai, regaining his freedom, kept running around the living room, sniffing here and there.

Li Wei didn't have time to bother with Wangcai now. He prepared warm goat milk for him and rushed out while putting on his jacket.

The F150 pickup truck sped along, arriving at the agreed location in just over twenty minutes.

Jack was already waiting at the entrance. Seeing Li Wei's pickup truck drive over, he quickly waved and called out:

"Boss, over here."

The car stopped beside Jack, and Li Wei quickly explained.

"Sorry, Jack, I went to bed a bit late last night. I'm not late, am I?"

"Boss, the timing is just right. I just arrived too."

"That's good. Shall we go in now?"

"Don't worry, Boss, I've already made arrangements."

The two didn't hesitate and walked into the driving school.

Thanks to Jack's connections, Li Wei got the exam appointment slip in just over ten minutes, skipping the in-person learning.

He would come back in three days for the written and water tests, and he could get his boat driver's license after just going through the motions.

When Li Wei came out of the driving school, he just wanted to ask one question: Who said Eagle Country wasn't a society based on connections? That it didn't rely on relationships?

The person who said that was simply shameless!

Not only is Eagle Country a "society based on connections," but it has also commercialized and formalized this "society based on connections."

With the matter handled, Li Wei said goodbye to Jack and quickly drove back to the North Star Farm.

As expected, the thing he worried about most had ultimately happened.

Opening the door, he saw a puddle of water on the floor.

He didn't need to think to know it was Wangcai's masterpiece.

At this moment, little Wangcai didn't know he had done something wrong. He was staring vigilantly at the bearskin in the living room. Hearing the sound of the door opening, he trotted towards Li Wei on his short legs.

Perhaps because his legs were too short, as he ran, he tripped and fell flat on his face.

Li Wei originally wanted to give him a scolding, but in the end, he couldn't bring himself to do it.

He rubbed Wangcai's head and started cleaning up.

After cleaning everything up, he carried Wangcai to an open space and taught him where to go to the bathroom.

What Li Wei didn't expect was that he only taught him a few times.

Wangcai seemed to understand what he was saying and started digging holes in the ground with his little paws non-stop.

Just as Li Wei was preparing to give Wangcai some intensive training, he heard the roar of a motorcycle in the distance.

Looking in the direction the sound came from, a completely red motorcycle sped towards him. Li Wei didn't even need to use a detection system; he knew with just his eyes that the person coming was Jessica.

The tight motorcycle suit couldn't hide her impressive figure.

What surprised Li Wei was when Jessica learned to ride a motorcycle.

In the original owner's memory, Jessica had always been the image of the girl next door, but now she had transformed into a heroic and spirited female rider.

"The girl from the past has ultimately grown up!"

Li Wei couldn't help but sigh in his heart.
