Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Resignation

Shutting off his phone, Wei Lian couldn't help but sigh as he glanced outside. Through the window of his cramped and dilapidated room, he can barely make out the sky painted in beautiful hues of red and blue.

How ironic. Sunsets are often perceived as melancholic. When lovers part, they symbolize it through sunsets. When death is near, they pertain to it as the sunset of life. Things like ending, past, and pain are usually associated with sunset.

Yet at this moment, Wei Lian only felt happiness and comfort at the scene of the setting sun. Because for him, sunset may mean the end of something, but it also symbolizes a beginning. For someone like him, who is worn out too early by reality and hardships, the appearance of sunset means that he can rest, that he can walk away from the toxicity of his life. That, for a short time, he won't have to feel the heavy weight of living.

The sound of laughter from the neighbor woke Wei Lian up from his depressed state.

That's right, there's no use feeling this way. The world does not stop because of one person, it won't slow down when you feel tired, and it definitely won't help you when you fall.

"Huff!"

Wei Lian stood up from the chair he was sitting on, stretching his arms as he walked towards his bed. He picked up the charger strewn on the floor and, along with his phone, threw it at a nearby table while his body fell harshly on the bed.

Unconsciously, Wei Lian found himself staring blankly at the books on top of the table where he threw his phone. He can't help but recall the moments he had stayed up all night reading those books in preparation for quizzes, fighting the desire to sleep by constantly drinking cups of coffee even as his stomach started to churn in protest. His books, a reminder to him that in the past, he was full of dreams, full of hope for his future.

'Unfortunately, he wasn't blessed with such a bright future'.  No matter how much he struggled, he is still helpless.

'Ahhh how tiring.....'

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wei Lian felt cold, EXTREMELY cold. And wet.
If not for the fact that he hated the cold and that freezing to death was not his preferred way to die, Wei Lian would have lain still, preferring to let himself sleep away to death, if a death like that is possible.
The first thought that entered his mind when he opened his eyes was: 'What the hell??' Because why is he fucking face to face with a dark, wet butt?!!
