Chapter 19 - The Crash

Ember's POV

Blood dripped into my eyes.

I blinked hard, trying to see. Everything was upside down. The truck had rolled over and I was hanging from my seatbelt like a broken doll.

My head felt like it was splitting open. My left arm wouldn't move right. And there was a sharp pain in my stomach that made me want to scream.

"The baby," I whispered, touching my belly with my good hand. "Please be okay."

I could hear voices getting closer. Heavy boots crunching through snow. Marcus was coming for me.

I had to get out. Had to run. Had to protect my child.

I reached for the seatbelt button, but my fingers were shaking. The blood running down my face made everything slippery.

"She's trapped in there!" Marcus shouted from somewhere above me. "Get her out!"

"Alpha, maybe we should call for help," another voice said. "She looks hurt bad."

"No hospitals. No doctors. No one else can know about this."
