"Everything's quiet. Is it over?" Daela whispers.
They escaped from the castle, but dragon soldiers lurk everywhere in these woods. Faelyn and Daela have seen hundreds of bodies - people who tried to flee but met brutal ends at the hands of the beasts.
The tiny space below ground barely fits them both. Their muscles ache from being cramped for hours. Faelyn's eyelids are heavy with exhaustion. Neither has slept since last night.
Faelyn grows more confident as hours pass that they won't be found. This small hole used to store wine and hasn't been used in years. The earthy lid above them should hide them from anyone walking overhead.
Daela sniffs deeply. Something's different about Faelyn now. It's stronger than before.
