The clatter of spoons against porcelain plates suddenly ceased as Lilith abruptly shot up from her chair, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "I have a surprise for everyone," she announced, her voice dripping with fake sweetness. "Dear brother, would you mind helping me get something from my room?"
Having recovered from her previous shock, Calista's fork clattered onto her plate. "Actually, I would prefer if my husband stayed right here with me," she said with a tight voice. She reached for Orion's hand under the table, squeezing it possessively.
Lilith's lips curled into a sneer. "Oh, are you afraid to let him out of your sight for two minutes? Worried he might realize he's missing something with you?"
Orion's jaw clenched. "Lilith, that's enough," he snapped. "The only thing I'd be missing is my appetite if I has to spend any more time with you."
