Auden smiled as he took out the most powerful Deathly Hallow from Harry's duffel bag. But before he touched it, he made sure to use a few spells that scanned for any surprises like tracking or locking systems. He was surprised to find that there were none.
Auden furrowed his brows. He was not a fool. Harry Potter and his three friends had thought about this cloak as a normal cloak of invisibility available in the market. They had no idea about its importance; that's why it was kept in a duffel bag without any sort of protection whatsoever.
But the current owner, Harry, had not possessed this cloak for at least ten years. It was in the hands of Albus Dumbledore, one of the two strongest wizards of the era, who had researched the three Deathly Hallows in his youth and was in possession of one of them even now. He knew that Dumbledore would have put in some backup to make sure it was not stolen.
He then looked into the system to find a spell from Nicholas's tomes. He found a scanning spell that seemed a bit complicated for normal wizards. But with his current knowledge, he was easily able to understand the spell perfectly.
He immediately used the spell to recognize what he was looking for.
"Two spells," Auden realized as the feedback of the spell allowed him to understand what kind of tracking spells were placed on it. But Auden grinned as he read the two spells. It answered one of his questions.
He had always wondered why one of the greatest artifacts in the Potterverse was so weak in showing its function in the books and movie series. The cloak was supposed to have protected one of the Peverell brothers from the sight of Death itself for so long that even he wanted to die of boredom. But when Harry got caught by every other person in the series while using the cloak, many doubted its authenticity. Now Auden realized the true reason.
"Dumbledore might have wanted to reduce the capabilities of the cloak. From what I can see, it has many functions that have been locked since Dumbledore couldn't risk Harry one day listening to his plans while being near him using the cloak. But thankfully, it does not take away the capabilities that I currently need to complete what I must do. So removing that spell is a waste of time." Auden ignored that spell and focused on the other. It made him realize another part of the cloak's power.
It seemed that tracking spells did not work on the cloak at all. The second spell on the cloak was a connecting spell. It was a spell that sent a signal somewhere when the cloak was away from Harry's blood for too long.
Auden was curious, as it would have been easier to cast a spell that constantly gave a location. So he tried a simple spell and found that the tracking spell he tried to put on it had bounced back without doing anything at all.
"Dumbledore might have also realized this and must have created this spell to inform him when Harry was away from the cloak. But this spell has a loophole," Auden thought as he went near Harry. He then used a sleep spell and a pain removal spell on him.
He then took out a small cube of glass stored within his ring and began transfiguration.
While researching permanent transfiguration—considered an impossibility by modern and ancient laws of magic—Auden had managed to find a trick to create a few permanent items. Though it couldn't be considered direct transfiguration, since he was just skirting its edges.
Instead of directly creating an item, he could create everything else except the particular shape. Currently, he was holding a cube of glass, one among many he had stored, seeing its usefulness for the trick he had developed.
He then took out his wand and, through silent casting, transfigured the cube to remove the glass while leaving a shape similar to that of a small test tube. What he did was, instead of creating a test tube directly that would turn back with time, he removed everything surrounding the test tube shape he imagined inside the cube. He then broke off the test tube from the rest of the transfigured glass.
So the test tube he was currently holding did not even have a hint of magic remaining in it, while the rest of the glass from the cube did. After some time, the rest of the glass would turn into a mold-like structure, while the test tube he cut off would remain the same. He then took out a small wooden piece and created a cork while doing the same procedure.
He then directly transfigured the air molecules into a syringe and cast a sleeping charm on Harry. He carefully filled the test tube with blood and put the cork on top.
"This is more than enough to satisfy the condition of the spell cast on the cloak," Auden thought as he replaced the original cloak with the fake one he had brought. The fake one would last only half a year, but Auden could successfully complete his target within the Christmas holidays—more than enough time for him to come back again and replace the fake with the original.
He then made sure to check one more time to see whether there were any traces of him left in the scene and stealthily exited the dorm room—this time using the original Deathly Hallow cloak.
"Huh, who's there?" the Fat Lady at the door questioned as she found the door opening by itself without any student coming out of it. But seeing that nothing happened, she thought nothing of it and went back to sleep.
Auden calmly walked back towards his room in the Ravenclaw house and put away the spoils of the night.
"Oh, thank God it's over," he muttered.
"Have you started the path of thievery, my dear brother?" suddenly a voice came from behind Auden.
