Chapter 23 - ATTEMPT TO BREAK FREE

My wolf is restless.

It's been over a week since they took me from home and locked me in these palace quarters like some rabid thing to be tamed. 

My whole body aches from lying on the hard, cold stone. I miss the weight of my furs, the way they smelled of pine and smoke and home. Here, the air tastes of the tamer and iron and gloom. Sick and sharp and wrong.

I miss those familiar faces from back home, the faces that soothe my bones. I miss shifting into my full form and running until my paws tear the earth. 

I miss the taste of freedom like a man dying of thirst misses water.

I pace the cage. A thin stream of sunlight from the window above tells me dawn is breaking. Another night with no sleep. Another morning chewing at the edges of my patience.
