Chapter 1 - Tragedies: The Fall Of House Valenhart

The bell finally rang, signalling the end of class for today. Finally, I thought, stuffing my stationery back into my bag.

School is exhausting. All I want is to go home, curl up with my BL novels, or play games until midnight. Anything—and I mean anything—is better than sitting through these painfully boring lectures.

I packed my bag. My books, stationeries, notes. Everything. I just want want to go home and plop down on my bed and read a novel. I slung the bag over my shoulder and began walking out. Suddenly I felt someone's firm hand grabbing on my wrist. I spun around, annoyed.

"Xavior?" I frowned, of course it had to be my stupid best friend who is an author

"Alex," he huffed, he looks like he had run a marathon and won, "My dearest best friend Alexander Wright"

I cringed internally hearing my nickname come out if his mouth, "What do you want?"

"Nothing I just–"

"Okay shut up," I said cutting him off, "it's one of your novels, isn't it?"

Xavior looks at me in mock surprise, "how did you know?"

"Magic," I replied.

"Okay anyway," he took out a novels from his bag-pack, "here," he handed it to me.

I looked up on the cover and the title, Tragedies: The Fall Of The House Valenhart. Even though Xavior is horny. I gotta admit he is a really good graphic designer.

I look up from the novel to see him sprinting away. I rolled my eyes. I'm gonna text him later. I shiver the book inside my bag. I began walking out of the school building. The blue in the sky had faded to orange emitting a glow of orange hue through the clouds.

I walked farther up the road. I passed the coffee shop that me and Xavior used to sit and drink coffee in. I sigh walking forward. I passed the park. Children here are playing, some on the slide, some on the swing. The gentle breeze blows past their hair. It reminds me of my own childhood.

I finally reached my apartment door. I entered the house, "I'm home," I said to no one.

I threw my bag on my bed abd walked to my parent's room. There sits their shrine. It's been two whole years since they passed leaving their only son behind. I sighed abd sat before them, "Hi mom and dad," I said, a solemn e pressing painted my face, "I'm still bad at hearing professors talk about things. I just hate lectures."

I got up and went to the bathroom, filling my bathtub up with warm water.

After my bath I went towards my bedroom.

I pulled the novel out of my bag and plopped down on the bed. I opened the book, flipping pages until I'm on chapter one. I start reading. The MC is a kid? Is this childcare? How adorable. This is new, even for Xavior it's new.

I can't believe soneonevas horny as my best friend could write it. I'm impressed.

I keep reading, flipping through the pages. It's kinda cute not gonna lie. Leon Valenhart, the youngest Valenhart of the house. Youngest brother to the eight year old Valenhart twins, Lucian and Julian. And Son of Duke Valenhart. The problematic thing I found in this story is that the nanny, Emilia Vodafone is thirteen years old. Can she even take care of herself? The more I read, the more I fall in love with Leon's cuteness. He is adorable.

I skimmed through the pages more until I hit the two hundredth page and the tragedies happensd. When Leon was seven, Lucian went to war and his corpse came back. Julian orchestrated getting revenge for Lucian but go assassinated instead. My heart clenched for Leon. Well it's just him and his father now. Who sends a thirteen year old to war?!?!

The Duke was depressed. But atleast he has Leon now. The rest of the few pages were wholesome to day the least. Has some dark undertones, but mostly wholesome. I read through more and there we go, another tragedy. When Leon turned ten years of age, his father died in a carriage accident. Jeeze Leon can't take a break. And on his birthday too.

Well atleast Emilia's still alive. At nights Leon would lash out at Emilia for trying to help him and then would warm up to her again while sobbing and crying on her skirt. Emilia is now eighteen and been Leon's anchor through all this. Aww, I'm glad she is alive. I skimmed through the rest of the pages.

Leon at this young of an age has to take over the title of Duke Valenhart. Being ten years old with also grievances. It was hard for him to learn. He took some training. And soon enough he had to manage everything.

Finance? Check. Salaries? Check. Growing up way too soon with a stoic expression? Also check.

Things were fine for two years. Emilia has been Leon's rock through all this shit, he has been going through. I read more. And after those two years the nobles decided that they won't have a tween running a Duchy. So they requested the Prince to send Assassins after him.

Emilia–sweet, sweet Emilia protected Leon, shielding him with her body.

Great, Fantastic, she is dead too. That was me be sarcastic.

My eyes widened as I read the next few passages, "his heart felt heaved with power as each stroke of power he felt surged through his veins. His heart grieving and blackening with rage. Then appeared water, tendrils rising from the ground, swirling around him like a tornado—" there's was magic involved?!?! Is Leon a demi-god?!?! Is his father posiedon?!?!?! Why wasn't any of these mentioned before?!?!?!

I read the next few passages. And Leon killed the assassin with his bare hands. Like ripping the dude in half and painting his walls with his blood.

What the hell?!?!?! How is this twelve year old so strong?!?!?! I might have to text that Xavior and shove this book right up his—

I skimmed through the rest of the pages. It looks like everyone in the kingdom has learned about the power that the young Duke posses. And in between some chapters it has been revealed that the Valenhart family were blessed by the water God. Probably Posiedon— oh it's Lysander. The king of the Southern Court— that's a country? Whatever. The king of the Southern Court has sent his son the Crown Prince, Alaric Veylon to Leon as a student. Leon was captivated by Alaric's beauty. His red hair along with those yellow eyes. Alaric is five years older than Leon.

Great, a new friend. Wondering when this one gonna die.

I skimmed through a lot of pages. Oh nice he isn't dying maybe he can live happily ever after with him. A secret rush was forming in the next few scenes but none would tell Leon would treat Alaric as a student event hough he is five years younger. You know what these pages are not that bad.

I sighed, flipping to the next page. Leon, now seventeen, had started suspecting that the crown prince was the one sending assassins after him.

Never-mind, I spoke too soon.

And the crown prince, Alaric—now twenty-two—suspected Leon had poisoned his mother.

You dumb bitch! Where's the proof?!

I skimmed further into the book. Leon and Alaric were at each other's throats—Alaric slashed at Leon, Leon slashed back. Then, with a roar muffled behind a terrifyingly calm expression, Alaric drove his sword straight into Leon's heart. He yanked the blade out, and—what the actual fuck—kissed Leon until he took his last breath.

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!

At the end, it was revealed that Leon never poisoned Alaric's mother, and Alaric never sent assassins after Leon.

It was the king of the Southern Court—Alaric's father—all along.

And it ends with Alaric killing his deadbeat father.

What the fuck did I just read?! Why did it end like that?!

Tears blurred my vision as I threw the damn book at the wall

I looked over at the time. 2:00 a.m.

I had been reading this stupid shit for this long? "Ugh… if I was Leon, I would do better." I muttered to myself.

That night, I went to bed angry and moody. I'll text that damn Xavior later.

A quake happened. The entire building shook.

"It's just a dream, Alex," I muttered to myself, still half asleep. "Go to sleep."

I turned to face upwards. I caught a glimpse of the fan on the ceiling falling down, straight at me.

What a weird dream—

pain.

Everything went black.
