Chapter 1 - A path away from the ordinary.

Kris was thinking about everything that happened that day.

In the waiting room of some ordinary doctor's office, amidst the smell of medicine, cleaning products, and the plain white walls surrounding them, Toriel and her son Kris Dreemurr wait anxiously.

At that moment, they hear the sound of doors opening, and both look toward the room where the doctor was analyzing the results, but find the doors still closed with no sign of anyone coming out.

Instead, through the entrance, a 2.23-meter-tall man with a goat-like appearance walks through the doors into the waiting room. His steps catch the attention of the two, making both stare at the man.

"IS IT TRUE?"

The other two in the room stared at him with even more surprise, considering the dramatic entrance and the way he spoke.

The man, looking rushed and even unstable, suddenly stopped. Realizing how he had spoken and the state he was in, he began trying to fix his beard and messy, sweaty hair as if he had just finished a marathon, all while apologizing.

"I'm sorry. I stayed up all night chasing a villain and ran here as soon as I heard what happened."

Kris's eyes quickly softened as the boy felt happy to see his father's antics, while his mother's disapproving look toward his father lessened a bit.

"Our son was attacked by a villain and might still be sensitive. Try not to shout at him," said the mother, giving the father a sharp look.

"I know, Tori, I shouldn't have done that." The goat-man suddenly seemed to shrink and wither.

Noticing her son's saddened expression after the interaction, the woman averted her gaze and turned back to the doors where the doctor was analyzing her son's condition after the tests.

"Kris, did you awaken a Quirk?" The man seemed to be asking about the death of a relative.

"Yes," the boy simply replied.

As soon as he heard the answer, the man hugged the boy, who, after a moment of confusion, quickly returned the embrace.

"I'm so scared. My son, you've always dreamed of being a hero, and while it made me happy to know you looked up to me... I was also afraid." The man fell silent with his son for a moment.

"Really afraid. I know how dangerous this job is."

"But…"

"This is your dream, isn't it?"

"I'm so sorry." The 2-meter-tall man cried as he hugged his son.

At that moment, the sound of doors opening echoed again. Asgore noticed, but didn't seem willing to let go of the hug, and Kris simply looked over his shoulder.

An elderly doctor opened the doors of the room where he had been reviewing the analyses, still staring at the papers until he looked up and began to speak.

"Miss Toriel, your son's Quirk test results are ready." Suddenly the doctor stopped, confused.

Looking at the goat-woman discreetly wiping away tears and the goat-man hugging his son with his massive body, the elderly man seemed frozen in confusion.

Kris, who along with his father was staring at the doctor, suddenly remembered the whole day and how he had ended up there.

Earlier that same day…

In a random classroom, Alphys, Kris's teacher with the appearance of a small yellow dinosaur, was trying to teach her students.

"W-Well class, the year is ending and now, as your last assignment of the year, you must present essays about what you plan to do with your lives." Announced the little woman nervously.

A final year assignment? So it's almost time to try the UA entrance exam. If I don't pass, then all my effort so far will be for nothing.

The first time he heard he had no Quirk, Kris almost gave up on his dream—but that didn't last long.

A heavy training schedule, diets, martial arts, and even some medication and chemical support checked and approved by his mother.

Kris had already decided: if he fails the UA exam, he'll give up on being a hero.

It's not like all the effort would be useless—after all, getting a strong, healthy body wasn't easy—but he knows very well that his only goal was always to become a hero.

Writing anything on the paper, Kris quickly stood up. He had already studied hard to pass the UA written test and had grades far too good to worry about this assignment's result.

Handing in the task that should have taken a week to do in just ten minutes, Kris left the room next to his friend Noelle Holliday, a blonde girl with brown skin and deer-like features who seemed dissatisfied with the boy's actions.

"Kris! Don't treat Professor Alphys's assignment like that!" the girl scolded.

The boy remained silent, simply nodding without seeming sorry.

"I know that now it's the final stretch and you're going to train even harder, but relax a bit, okay? You can't just treat everything else as secondary."

Looking into the girl's eyes for a moment, the boy thought about what she said and nodded again.

This time, seeing understanding in his eyes, Noelle smiled and kept walking beside him.

As they walked home along the same path, they passed under a small bridge where it became dark for a moment.

At that moment, Kris felt discomfort in his stomach and looked to the left, sensing something there.

A man—or rather, what looked like the shadow of a man—was staring at them. He didn't seem to have eyes, a nose, or a mouth—just a misshapen black outline.

Leaning against the wall—or rather fused to the wall with his body that seemed to work like a shadow—the figure smiled at Kris. Noelle also stopped when she saw her friend suddenly alarmed.

"Hey, you noticed me quickly, kid," said the man simply before leaping from the wall, shifting from a basically 2D form to a more solid one and punching Kris in the face hard.

Caught off guard, the boy fell to the ground and nearly passed out, taking a moment to reorient himself.

Looking up, what he saw made him shudder. The man now had the girl pinned against the wall, seemingly ready to force a kiss.

While the man expected Kris—deceptively thin and young—to pass out from the punch, the boy didn't waste the opportunity he had with the man's back turned.

Grabbing both sides of the man, the boy pulled him away from his friend before leaning back and slamming the man's head into the ground.

Nervous and worried, the boy ran to Noelle.

"Noelle, are you okay?" asked the anxious Kris, not noticing the man rising behind him as Noelle's eyes filled with panic.

"Look behind you, Kris!" the girl screamed in panic as she unknowingly activated her Quirk, causing ice to form at her feet and push both of them away, creating a wall between them and the figure. This prevented the mysterious man from making a surprise attack and even saved her, but it trapped Kris there.

"Noelle, run. I'll stay and hold him off," Kris offered, turning to face the shadow who, even without a face, radiated anger and hatred at the boy.

The girl seemed about to protest for a moment, but seeing the futility of the situation with an ice wall between her and the boy, she decided to run for help.

Now face-to-face with the shadow, the boy thought:

*I'm done, aren't I? That first punch almost knocked me out, and I've never been in a real fight like this. He's probably going to try to kill me.*

"Hey you little shit, feeling like a hero? When I crack your head open with punches, you'll regret all of this, you know?" the figure mocked the boy angrily.

*Regret saving her from someone like you? Never. But yeah, I really do feel like a hero right now. It would be really sad if after all this, I fell without a fight.*

Remembering the figure from his fantasies he wanted to be, the boy about to die decided to embody it.

"I'll never regret it, villain. And the chances of trash like you beating me are zero," said the boy, suddenly smiling with absolute confidence.

The man, irritated by the words, simply prepared a punch that the boy met head-on with his own.

Never losing the smile, the little otaku even shouted the name of a move he'd seen in an anime.

"KOKUSEN!" the boy shouted with all his heart, feeling no shame at all.

The moment their fists collided, the air vibrated. A black light surged from Kris's fist, the space seemed to shatter for a moment, and then the faceless figure flew straight into the wall, cracking it and forming a crater.

The boy, jaw dropped, stared at his own fist in shock. A second later, he heard a voice shout:

"Stop immediately, villain! I, Kamui Woods, am here to stop you!" shouted the hero in a dark blue bodysuit and wooden mask—who suddenly stopped, confused.

What he saw instead of a beaten child and triumphant villain was simply a defeated villain embedded in the wall and an unharmed boy standing.

The man sighed and realized this case would be a pain to deal with.

Meanwhile, Noelle—who had brought the hero for help—ran to Kris, who was still blinking at his fist.

"Kris, are you okay?" the girl asked as she began inspecting the boy's body in panic, touching and checking everywhere in the chaos.

Not even able to feel uncomfortable with it, the boy simply blinked at his fists, his eyes growing sleepier until he passed out.
